Impreza Vrs Evo...! Something up there!

Folks,

Recently my friend got his evo 7 RR'ed and got 347bhp at flywheel and 264 at the wheels. So the two of us were messing about last night and did a rolling start side by side 1st gear, and me, with my 295bhp in my type-r scooby left him for dust , not just a car length or 2, I mean left him well. Thats the second evo I have encountered with +/-10bhp around 350bhp that I have left for dust.

Now Im not mentioning the RR's involved, dont want to get into that. But there is something about more get up and go in the scoobies than the evo's. Any views..? :dontknow:

Interested to hear some other peoples views.

Cheers
Paddy

Your type r has much lower ratio gearing but and would be up to 120kg lighter so you would be close in BHP per tonne..you should of ran on past 100 then he would caught you and left you

Hello Dagnut,

Im not going to quote speed on a live forum, as I did before and got Criticized for it, but all Ill say is HE DIDNT pass me!!!, NO ANSWER TO THAT THAN AND HE WAS GIVING IT SOCKS ALL THE WAY.

Definitely better torque delivery in subarus-plus less lag due to topmount as opposed to evo's front mount. Used to own an Evo VI and found the power delivery a lot more linear and just not as strong as the subaru.

Had a similar encounter with a lad i worked with. Me in my type R and him in his Evo 4 with a proven 330bhp.
Rolling start and nailed it, were were neck and neck though all the way

either he took to long changing gears or his evo is acting up, them evos can move and in standard form are usually quicker

how is he gettin 350 brake from his car,as in what mods has he,i would presume a remap was in volved

your car DEFINTELY has short ratios...make huge difference...AFAIK a type r wil top out @ around 135-140..and evo will do 155-160

Hello Duffman,

Yes a re-map has been carried out on his car along with fueling mods, upgraded intakes, full exhaust, increased boost pressures, in fairness its a well turned out machine in that way, its mapped about 3-4weeks ago. Again I dont want to mention the tuners or RR as that can raise a whole load of Cr*p.

Personally I believe there is much better pull out of the impreza, apart from just eatting up the rev's in every gear, it just has that something extra. But one thing is for certain, the guy is not too happy!! :) awh well, I didnt let us down Folks!

Regards

Paddy

As far as I remember a Type R tops out at 157mph.

The highest i got on mine was 247km/hr on the power FC in controlled off public road conditions, didnt take too long to get to it either. I just think there is something up there folks, no biggy, just thought someone else would have had simular experiences.

Regards

Paddy

not a chance look @ the revs it makes @ 180kmh..there not enough revs on the clock for it to hit 250kmh..it takes 4000rpm to hit 120kmph and it only boost to about 6700 or so?

An STi 6 type R has a top speed of 150+ mph, and believe me I know it for a fact.

you may have had indicated 150 doesn't mean you where doing 150..unless you had it gunned by radar or gps?..any type r has only clocks to 180kmh after that your guessing the readings on power fc are not accurate. apexi rsm are not accurta eoither as they are taking the reading from you ecu just as the power fc is

I had a type R box in the wagon, and you'd be doing well to get her up past 120mph. At 180kmph the revs were pretty high

The clocks are not accurate as they aren't designed to run past 180..I was on a private road running against a V8 Holden...my clocks wher just about around @ 0 which if you graded it the same as the rest of the clock should of had me @ around 270kmh i was just moving past him and he said his clocks where reading 250 ....his clocks are properly graded for 280kmh
