Insurance company - valuation.

Greetings people,

as some of you might already know, my car was stolen almost two months ago. After a bit of back and forth with the insurance company they've come back with the galant offer of 6.500 euros for a 2000 Legacy B4 in near mint condition. Of course they waited with the offer so I am off on vacation at the moment (something they were well aware of about two weeks after the car was stolen that I wanted to have everything sorted before going on vacation, funny how their offer came in on the monday after vacation started)

Anyways, I obviously need to get some valuations done from people in the business, if anyone here knows of any dealers that would be willing to do me up a letter stating the obvious (that there is a difference between whatever shed they got valued and a decent car) I would be most grateful.

I have the distinct feeling they are trying to screw me over royally, and me being foreign isn't helping. Here are some of the statements they've made to me so far.

1) Sent me scans of ads where *private* sellers are asking "in the region of" the offered 6.500 Euro
2) When I pointed out that I had the McIntosh stereo, "we don't pay extra for optional equipment"

The below is a description of the condition of my car, as it was when it was stolen.

I purchased the car in June of 2008, I was the first and only owner here in Ireland. The car has always been driven on Maxols E5 fuel
along with Octane booster, apart from one trip to the north where I
put in a tank of Tescos super unleaded (also 99 octane + octane
booster)

Mechanically every single thing on the car was original, and in
perfect working order. Just after I bought I had a problem with the
MAF, this was replaced under warranty.

The exterior had these small imperfections.

• The bootlid had a very small dent (less than 0,5 mm across, no broken paint)
• The “chrome effect” on the grille had a few loose flakes of paint.
• The front spoiler had a crack about 4 cm, already fixed but would
have needed sanding down and repaint.
• Back bumper had a few scratches in the paint, possibly this would
buff/polish out without any additional work needed.
• Left front alloy kerb mark about 3 cm in length.

Interior was perfect, apart from the lid to the centre cup holder
(would not stay shut) And I do mean perfect, every single person who
got in the car commented that it was like a new car inside.

Additionally, the car had these factory options fitted
7 speaker McIntosh stereo system with 6 cd changer.
STI pedal set

To be honest mate, if you were to try and sell it, thats probably all you'd get for it unfortunately. Goldenjohn is selling a 01 car for 7,500 and has had no solid interest really and his is another good car. Try and get them to bump it up obviously anyway but to my mind, its probably a fair evaluation. You could get yourself a good replacement for that money.

My advice would be to take what you can from the car, i.e. sti pedals, new MAF (put old one back in if you still have it) and also rip out the stereo and save it for the next car. That is providing they havent taken the car away already of course

Cheers for that Robbie,
Ya that is a excellent price for the climate that is in it, See if you can get a bump for it, But i dont see it being much better. Wish you all the best.

John

As above, pretty much sums it up there.

Obviously insurers are using the current climate to exploit this also but if you can try not to rush into the

offer and dont be bullied by statements such as this offer is only valid for x amount of weeks.

As sweetcakes says, you can pick up a decent replacement for that kind of money and for the sake of a couple hundred euro, which is

more than likely the maximum you will be offered on top of the original offer, after lenghty arguements and added stress, youd be as well

to take the dough and start looking round again. Plus cash is king at the mo so could even get a few bob knocked off in some places when your rocking in with €6500!!

As for johns b4, its a very tidy motor and well worth looking at, well looked after and at least that way you have an idea of the history of the car as opposed to sometimes buying blind from a garage!

Best of luck with it anyway!!

Robbie is right, I'd be surprised if they budge on that at all to be honest. I'd take the money and just save yourself the stress of the back and forth between you and the insurance company.

As Aido says...cash is king at the moment. With cash in hand you'll get yourself a bargain!
Good luck

Lost my Impreza earlier in the year, went through this recently.
Price seems fairly realistic at the moment, I'm afraid.
If you want to replace with another 'Ru, look no further than the club initially. I would have looked at this if it wasnt for having to move abroad soon (had been onto John about his at the time). You will get a maintained car with an honest history.
You will get a good cash price these days, of course.
I got a great deal on my Volvo... :eek7:

Thanks for the input people - Very much appreciated.

Been looking aroud a bit and it probably wont be worth the hassle to get a couple of hundred more for it (if that was even possible) -

Smashing motor there...plus you know the history of the car and if ever stuck just ask the lads on

here and theyl testify that its a decent and well looked after leggy!! :subaru:
