hey guys
i dont have a subaru yet , but im turning 30 this year and decided that my days of driving japanese N/A hatchbacks is over, i want something with a bit of comfort and most importantly power..

so im thinking about a legacy b4 twin turbo , and have been doing a lot of reading on this site in particular about the ups and downs of owning such a machine.... such as the VOD , the mapping that has to be done ,warming up your engine before contemplating driving hard and allowing it to cool sufficiently etc

there is one question id like to ask before i go and make a purchase though..

a lot of cars here are mapped for maxol E5 , now thats all well and good if you live near somewhere that sells that ,but my nearest garage is about 50miles away ... so thats a hell of a round trip to be making every week ..

is there any way to safely map these cars to run on 95 ron , i dont mind sacrificing power for longevity , i just want piece of mind that the engine wont go tits up ... also will it require a bottle of lucas octane booster for every tank of fuel if i do this ... how expensive is this lucas stuff, and how much would a mapping cost ...

thats all for now , looking forward to hearing from ye
cheers
ED

Hi Silverbullet and welcome to the site. I take it you already know there's a wealth of knowledge and opinion about the Subaru on here!

I have a B4 myself. I don't have it mapped but do run it on E5 and havn't had a problem in 18 mths. Had an SIR Civic before it and was also driving my sis's teg. For comfort there is no comparison. Its a really nice car to drive. One thing i will say is the steering is light so there is less feel that what your used to. The valley of death or VOD is noticable and can catch you out at first but you can adjust your driving and aviod it. If you don't plan to tear the ar$e off the car you won't really use the second turbo too often anyway as its higher in the rev range.

You want to run it on 95. I think you can get your car mapped for 95 but i think the experts recommend your map it for 95 with booster. You should talk to the traders on here about mapping the car and what fuel or mix is most suited. I know davelegacy 'stituning' and Renno 'streetperformance' get the best of mappers in and they do map B4's.

If your thinkin of buying have a look at the for sale section here, should be a couple up. It's gonna be safer for you to buy of someone on this site who cares about and has looked after thier car, rather than some dodgy stealer! I know RoB4's car is up for riduclas low price at the mo - check it out!

Anyway happy hunting! :subaru:

Welcome along....

Why not buy an impreza....much better car.....

Seriously though B4 are good nice cars good power and comfy,as for the mapping on maxol thats ok but like you say what if there is none around,so your probably best getting her mapped for 95+booster(lucas or NF),then you can fill up anywhere and just keep the booster in car....
As for longevity of the engine...well thats upto what how you drive and how often you service her, warm them up and cool down properly with good oil changes, you cant really go wrong.
Price are best to ask our site traders,Dave at stituing,Damo at streetperformance....also both of the above traders will give you prices for booster...

Welcome along lad  :subaru:

B4's are great machines. I love mine to bits. I'm not sure on the mapping side of thing for 95, i think Dagnut had some problems trying to map his for 95 and booster but that was a fair while ago. Not sure who mapped it at the time. Bob Rawle is over here now the odd time and he is the king of B4 mapping so if anyone could do it, he could.

Welcome to the club. You can map it for what ever fuel you have local to you.
