Motor tax loophole to close today

You can still get a stamp to end of september. I read it here: http://www.louthcoco.ie/en/Louth_Co...-Temporarily-Off-The-Road.37483.shortcut.html

At least you can declare it now in its last month of tax as opposed to giving 3 months notice.

Still load of horse manure anyway. If you are late to declare, you have to pay the following 3 months tax. No option forpaying by the month, or paying for a single month.

Like right now I am out of tax and the car has been locked up, was going to tax it this Friday and use for the next 3 months but I need to use the car 1 day in october before it goes into winter storage so I'll have to wait until august to tax it, otherwise I'll be liable for false declaration under the new regime if I tax it now for 3 months.

taxed my own this morning , basically I have to tell the tax office that the car will be off the road for however long before this tax disk runs out , so end of September I either retax her or declare it off the road

Does anything change for those, that use their car regularly? or is the process of renewing gonna be the same?

Think the fines and pealties are a bit harder to swallow than the 60 quid fine currently in use ,

So lets say you have to drive one day in October like robie above, if you just take the risk and don't get stopped your grand, what happens if you do get stopped? Is it that your liable for a fine the equivelant of your cars 3 months tax?? Is there points or anything?

think the anpr on the traffic corps cars will come into its own with a situation eli , if your caught your screwed , may talk to the cousin in the guards and see what his take on it is

Do tommy be curious to know, that recognition camera is widely used on main roads so depends where ya drive I suppose!

If you've declared it off the road and they stop you, they'll throw the book at you, certainly in the first few months of this. Making false declarations, etc, etc...

If you haven't declared it off the road by end of september, then you will be liable for all the road tax going back to the end of the last valid tax disk. If you do declare it off the road and are caught with it, you will be liable for the back tax to the last valid disk, fines, court and in some cases, jail.

Only thing I'm not quite sure of yet is change of ownership. In the link I posted above, it indicates that a new ownership document won't be issued till the back tax is paid. But I can't see how they can do that given you are now the new owner and not liable for the tax. They can't penalise you for someone else not paying surely, but then again, it is Ireland after all :icon_hang:

Must tax mine tomorrow so out since march . If you have a track car that gets "trailered" to the track what do you do in that situation?

Trailered not classed as on road

 " trailered " Dave, as in driven to the track and thats all the car does , sits in a driveway then for the rest on the time , never driven at all

What if its been off the road for a few years :ponder2:

Not that it matters much since i cant find the log book with two years
