My Legacy vs 2002 Audi S3

So lads after a night of being called a "rice burner" by a lad in work that has a newly acquired standard Audi S3, he has told me he will leave me for dead around Mondello in my sh1t heap Subaru. Now the challenge has been set, i told him i would go for it tomorrow if we can (not likely, next private track day maybe!) and put my money where my mouth is, but he said he can wait till whenever, possibly March/April till it warms up a bit. My question is would i beat his ass in my standard 270bhp leggy vs 225 bhp S3? I know its all about the driver and that but lets say were both even for now! if its early next year by the time we get to battle this out in Mondello i might have the car up to about 330-340 give or take, depending on funds and he might have his remapped/work done too. Anything i can do to the leggy handling wise to get her around Mondello quicker?

Also whats bad on the S3's i can abuse him over? :new_2gunsfiring_v1: :new_2gunsfiring_v1: apart from it being a short ass Nazi scum!!!(sorry :naughty:)

for a start, a decent set of tires, a good suspension set up and a few whiteline bits will get her stickin to the track

Get Jomo to set her up with a white line drop links anti roll bar and anti lift kit and he's a legend for setting the suspension (negiive camber etc).

Again to say what Brian said Good tyres and Brakes.

On the fact that the VAG group used Nazi slaves, is not a good start, as Subaru actually built most of the Mitsubishi P-Zero plane's, so it's 1 all there.

The Legacy is a lot heaver for a start, so good set-up and a lot of practice in Mondello is a must, has he any experience of Mondello. The S 3 use's the 1.8 T, and it's a bloody great engine, but I'm not sure he has a front LSD, so he will suffer on corner exit. You will also need brakes, as the standard pads will be usless around Mondello, if pushed on really hard. Good tyres are important, but get practice. Get out on a track day before you go up against him, all is fair in love and war,

John

Oh Dan thats gonna be an expensive challenge

You only just fitted eagle f1 assymetrics right? Thats the tyres sorted.

Budget maybe upto 1k for whiteline front & rear with a jomo setup.

Not sure if the discs are up to it but maybe have a set of ferodo 3000's ready and broken in for the track day.

And finally tell the missus you want a gift voucher for the race school at mondello so you can get out on track with a good instructor.

And yes we'll all be there to cheer you on :subaru:

In my opinion those S3's are nothing special. I left a new model S3 sitting in my GSR until it went into the top end range and gsr lost its puff. Legacy has a lot better top end range and as you know they aren't as slow as people make them out to be so you shouldn't have any hassle showing the older model s3 up around Mondello. If you can get your self a few practise runs beforehand you'll be grand.

I've seen one of these in modello. Don't know if it was the driver but it looked very slow. Your legacy should make a show of it around the track, 4 wheel drive power!!! :D :D

Hey Dan prob the best or first mod for any serious
track car is BRAKES ............a whole new set would be expensive but as
someone mentioned above FERODO pads and maybe some DOT 5.1 brake fluid, braided
hoses would also be a good mod.

You could get all the white line stuff..........well it help, definitly  but it's all down to ?????'s

Your legacy's handling suspension etc..............already as standard will be good .

Mondello only has the one long straight so it will all come down to the corners , you will clearly have the advantage
here ............especially on exitting the corner ......................Drop Dan (Forester STI) a mail for a few pointers

Anyway be sure to post up deatils as to when etc............... we don't want a couple of boring old grumpy VAG drivers giving you stick,
trying in vain to explain why the molecular structure of the AUDI engine far out ways :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah:
:icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah:
:icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah: :icon_blahblah:

Look as Clarkson said if you drive an AUDI.............YOUR A COCK !!!!! which of course translated into Irish , means YOU BIG GAY ba*tard.

Niall.

I know its a wrx and not a leggy, but the s3 is a fast car
Get someone who knows mondello well i got Ciaran (rs-ra) to talk me around knocked a good few sec
off me lap time and saved on tyres.
I was just chucking in into the bends having a ball but when he got in and was telling me when to do this and that we were flying.
But i liked the fun end of it ass out and all that and fooked the tyres
Deffo get some track time.
I will be there to wave the flag
could be an Audi one :1poke:

thanks for the info lads, i dont want to be have to splash out too much on handling modsfor this challenge but i think i will definitely invest in some good pads and brake fluid for it though! Is it expensive to bring your own car out with an instructor in Mondello, Or next time someone is going out let me know and i'll call shotgun!

the day i was up in mondello there was an s3 up their too and i was expectin it to be awful lively cos your man gutted the car to save weight and put duck tape over all the joints and all this carry on,,,i passed him 3 times on the track and mines a standard sti impreza!!hope this helps :subaru:

I drove a friend's standard Audi S3 a few years ago. It was quick enough but no ball of fire. The suspension was rock hard so I would say it would go through corners reasonably well but like all older Audis and indeed Subarus it will understeer its way around a track. The B4 Legacy was never intended as a track weapon in the same way that an Audi S4 is not set up for track work. The S3 would have an advantage on track but like most of the lads said properly sorted brakes and suspension is the most effective way to put in a quick lap time as increasing the power has less effect on a track like Mondello which is a technical handling circuit as opposed to a power circuit.

As for using Ferrodo pads and Goodyear Eagle F1's, the Legacy will eat both on track so be prepared for an expensive day. Maybe you'd be better off using a set of part worn tyres and pads and just bin them afterwards? Regardless of good your car handles and how powerful it is I absolutely guarantee you a really good pilot will pass you lap after lap even in a shed. I was in an EVO VI Tommy Mackinen Extreme with over 450 bhp which was passed by a 15 year old BMW 325i with the original standard engine and standard road tyres. The BMW was driven by a part time racer and even with all the EVO's power, brakes and active suspension (not to mention a very good track day regular driver) the BMW destroyed us.

As for that U tube clip above, for every clip showing one car faster than another there's always another showing the converse. It all depends on who has what mods. These clips are only relevant if both cars are stock, which judging by the amount of gauges in the WRX and winning margin of the S3, seems very unlikey.

^^^

What he said, its down to the driver. Years ago on possibly the first or second ISDC track day, one of the Mondello instructors took out a Renault 19 Daysul van and embarassed loads of Scooby's. Be careful how much you start boasting.

S3 is 4wd aswell though (the syncro shite)
I wouldn't know on which one to place a bet... :dontknow:

Practise, practise, practise... on the track :subaru:

At this stage we can only take Car V Car as we don't know driver skill...so with an extra 60ftlbs of torque and and extra 55bhp with only an extra 100 kg to carry My money is on the b4

Here's some words of wisdom for track day novices by the great man himself, Tiff Nedell.

The irony of of his chariot is not lost on me either!

there must be somebody like this in every job, ive a mate in work with a dc-5 inegra and hes allways goin on about how its built for the track and would leave me sittin. ive driven it a few times and i didnt find it that fast even when the vtec kicked in. :hammerhead: it would be nice to go up against him also but ied need a lot of practice as ive never even been to mondello. in this instance i think it would be down to the driver. both cars have advantages and disadvantages on a track so i think it would be a close one..........but ied put my money on the leggy :subaru:
