My Legacy vs 2002 Audi S3

Yeah the aluminium chassis was in accurate, I misread it and hold my hand up on that, but the weight factor still remains, 1480 v 1430 with a lot more guts to push it.
I was referring to altezza dan who has the single twin scroll turbo, 1994 cc ej20..he was the OP.
I never doubted it was driver skill all the way I've been around modello and passed more powerful better handling cars and I'm very inexperienced..Plenty of lads in bangers would show me up no doubt ...but as I said @ this point neither Dan or S3 lad have been around so we have to assume they have equal skills.
Plenty of lads dyno'd standard unmapped b4's and I have never seen below 250bhp.
The 330 bmw for example makes 231 on 98 and 221 on 95.
The figure quoted for the B4 liberty, which is in a milder form of tune than the jdm b4, is 254bhp..that doesn't necessarily mean that a jdm b4 runs 254 on 98..they retuned it, it runs less boost but with a smoother torque curve..the jdm can run 98 safely but it didn't perform as well...The liberty b4 was completely rework for Australian conditions.
Dan's is mapped for 95 anyway and made 280 on a reliable dyno @ couture auto so its irrelevant.

There's nothing more exaggerated than one's estimate of what bhp their car has. The amount of disappointed faces I've seen at rolling road days over the years is testament to that with egos deflated left right and center. The JDM B4 is tuned on 100 ron and the Liberty 98 but I wonder if the B4 can actually retard its ignition by 5 points? I was just throwing those figures out there for discussion.I have seen plenty of B4's put out way less than 250bhp on Westward's rollers principally because of det. I've seen figures below 230 bhp on 95ul but the run had to be stopped too save the engine from serious damage.

There's no doubting the legacy is a light car considering its steel chassis and its length (although it is quite narrow relative to other cars in its class) but going back to the original question I don't think all things being equal, an unmodified version of each car would be much quicker than the other so there's no way the S3 will show up the Legacy. By the sounds of things the Leggacy will have some nice mods and at least 50 bhp more than the S3 so my money would be on the Legacy.

One of your links made for very interesting reading about the Haldex performance fix which holds the torque split 50/50 or more biased towards the rear on competition settings. It sounds like a poor mans DCCD but it seems to be effective from the comments I've been reading about it. The Audi TT-S runs the latest faster acting Haldex system and it's 2 seconds quicker around a track than the new STI despite giving away almost 30bhp to the STI, so the Haldex system is improving all the time. It's main advantage is that in normal conditions you dont need awd so running in "fwd" mode saves fuel from transmission losses inherent in an awd system and it probably saves the tyres a bit too. The disadvantage seems to be its slower acting nature which allows esp to cut in and kill the fun before the Haldex system has a chance to work .

Mapped on E5 and made 270 on the rollers. Still in standard form apart from the remap and K+N panel filter(+30bhp!)

not doubting the haldex system now in the RS4 and R8 its rear biased and probably one of the best around

The RS4 and R8 use the Torsen system which is a f/r 40/60 split.

There is talk that Porsche will use the next generation Haldex system in its forthcoming new 911 Turbo.

Ah i see ted thats why they where comparing the two on the audi forums the Torsen seems to be favored system.

Torsen is the only one that is true AWD like Subaru's symmetrical AWD system.

"Quattro" is only a trade mark and can and is used to describe on any one of a number of different systems eg, Torsen, Haldex or the one used in the Q7.

Subaru's AWD is far superior to Haldex fwd systems but not the latest Torsen awd systems which on the new RS5 is supposed to (if you believe the latest articles in car mags) set a new benchmark for awd cars.

I think we have probably bored 99% of the regular posters to death with this thread. Sorry guys
