Car failed nct today because since last may i was told,if it leaves the factory with a drivers airbag it should have one on for the test.Would have got an oe steering wheel if
i knew that.Question....where is the airbag light as i had an oe wheel on it when i got the car and never saw it?
Also is the light supposed to come on with the others and go out when the car starts?
On a side note.fitted cat pipe straight tru center and kakimoto back box for test, flew tru emmisions but got a reading of 106db....
I told him it couldnt be right.I even said my blitz at home would hardly be 106,to which he said"all our machines are callibrated"
Wtf i see the other lad stick the meter about 2" away from the backbox.
Should they measure it the same as the guards, meter away 45degree angle etc?
Also for the record the exhaust is quiet backbox is jasma stamped with 96db.
im fuckin raging :icon_twisted:

Ok lads, good to be back, pulled out the dash clocks and found the air bag light bulb broken in holder so light on now.
I am waiting on a momo wheel and clockspring as we speak.
Q1.Does the fact that the car having a glovebox instead of passenger air bag cause problems with airbag light?
Q2.If i had wanted to could i just wire up air bag bulb to say,the oil light(id say easy enough)so it comes on with ign and goes out when started?
just to give a big :hjtwofinger: to nct man.(all they need to see is that light works)

Q1. If the car didnt come from the factory with a passenger airbag fitted then the answer is no.
Q2 the tester will want to see a steering wheel with airbag fitted not just the light going out.

Ok fitted clockspring and steering wheel but light stays on full time.I see a little trick on youtube where you ground a few wires behind fusebox
to scan the srs system only this is on newage cars.Does anyone know is there any trick to do this on a classic?as i cant find anything, cheers.

It could be a faulty airbag now if the light is staying on. Most airbags are only good for 10 years so I have read.

Have the old airbag at home, will swap it tomorrow just in case
Its like driving with a concrete block in front of me compared to the small omp wheel :icon_lol:

Ok lads in better form today, car passed on everything only exhaust noise again.I made up a bung for it since the last time and it is reading 2db more :wall:
in fairness the lad called me out and talked me through the reading while he was taking it
Any ideas on making it about 10dbs quieter, wire wool etc :dontknow:
Want to get her up to spec for southern meet

Pretty much the same as a blitz bung about 14" long and cuts the hole from about 4.5" down to about 2.75"
Thinking making up a 3" plate to go between bb and center and just drill 2 or 3 10mm holes in it.

Sean... Sorry to go off topic... but how do they know your car originally came from the factory with an airbag...? Do they assume that all cars of a certain year where fitted with em...?

Id imagine so,i suppose all cars after a certain age have them :dontknow:
@ker99 that looks good, will fabricate something tonight :icon_biggrin:

I made a bung up for keith dublin's old type-r before, brought the dbs from 110db down to 55db. Nothing special but good enough for 5mins atthe nct centre. it was only about 90mm long in total.

That simple one above may work but you might need one with a simple centre cylinder to allow the sound to reflect and cancel out some of the other noise

Not really, found the wires to diagnose the fault codes(11 and 31)and instead of wasting more money i fixed up the airbag bulb/holder to run
off the engine check/charge wires.Ignition on lights on,car starts light goes out ,happy days
Steering wheel going up on a nice shelf in the garage for about 2 years tomorrow

I tested my car this morning, passed no prob but was close on lambda 1.03-right on the limit. No DB reading on the report though :dontknow: Also a lovely smell of burning clutch when I got back in to the car :angry1: For people that are supposed to me mechanics theyre clueless, saw them stalling a 911 countless times before and today the failed a guy on rusty brake pipes and told him to go get them cut out and welded!!!

Great job  monday should finish me with them
I must replace the turbo studs as i cracked 1 when i removed the decat, and :subaru: fit a left rear wheelbearing before next sundays meet
