New gen 86 unveiled!

Today, Toyota have released images and details on the upcoming GR 86, the next generation 86 that is on the same platform as the Subaru BRZ. The GR 86, much like the BRZ is a naturally aspirated front-engine rear wheel drive car, but with a bit more power, with the GR 86 standing at 235ps with an increased displacement of 2.4-litres.

The differences visually between the GR 86Z and BRZ is minimal, with the GR86 boasting a different front bumper and headlights, however the rear bumper and taillights are exactly the same. What else has changed, although you won't notice at first glance are its proportions, with The length standing at 4265mm, 25mm more than the BRZ, while the height is 10mm lower at 1310mm.

Handling is achieved through MacPherson Struts in the front section, and double wishbone suspension in the rear. The body rigidity has been increased, with center of gravity and weight improved and lowered respectively. The GR 86 will have both a six speed manual transmission and an six speed automatic transmission as an option.

Now, what this means for Super GT have yet to be seen, with the second generation Mother Chassis regulations being developed and teams utilizing the first gen 86 as we speak, only time can tell.
