Hi lads see a few members on here have been cleaning the solenoid box on the B4 legacy.. my question is i havent had it long ....3 weeks...... the day i got it drove fine till nearly home when the power went was like driving a really slow 2.0 ... i brought it in to a friend of mine who is very good with all these turbo cars he had a look at it and he clamped each boost hose going into the solenoid box an took it for a spin each time the car was boosting again but was intimately working he said im better off with an apexi avcr.. i dont have the money at the minute to get 1 ... anyway driving home it started boosting fine i think it seemed good enough anyway... but 2 weeks later its gone into this sort of limp mode again. my mate says its the solenoid box, the other thing is if i drive the car up2 6k revs its boost again but as soon as i drive easy it goes dead again.. i have ordered silicone hose and have the carb cleaner just want to know does this sound like my problem... im hoping the cleaning the solenoid and new hoses will work thanks any help would be great :azn:

Aye, I'd first try to clean it mate.

Connect both black connectors under the dash and turn ignition on - that will activate your boost solenoid, you will hear it clicking. Then disconnect the hoses and spray some carburetor cleaner inside.

Unless you really really really know the twin turbo system leave that solenoid box alone. You'll open an awful can of worms.Where are you based? From your description that car has to be generating a CEL.

Well if i floor the car in 1st gear once it gets too 6k rev it will boost all through the gears, if i was in say in 3rd and did it would take very long to pick up bugt would turn on the cel an maybe loose power no boost very strange flick on an off the ignition and the light goes out ??. the day i got the car it was ok then on the way home i was in 5th gear over takin a lorry on bypass was only doin 60mph and it just lost the power... my mate had a look at it as i said above, anyway driving home it started driving ok then same thing few days ago was in 5th about to over take an as it was pickin up it just lost the boost again havent drove it since as it drinks the petrol when like that. Im in Laois near Portlaoise thanks

Hey Lad

God I know how you feel! Its a nightmare, picked my car up last Friday and had nothing but issues since.
Turns out my vacum lines were mixed up, and there was one hose that was meant to have a restrictor pill in it from the manifold to the dump valve that didnt.
Fixed all that and it boosts great but holds back mad. No power, loads o power, splutter, more power!

Read the CEL, connect the wires under the dash, same as an impreza, read the code! 66 is vacum and 22 is knock.
My guess is knock sensor is fubarred! and or vacum lines screwed up.

Get onto UK legacy forum and look for Goosie! He came down from Ennis to cork to me and we sorted is Wed! Just waiting on a knock sensor to come from Dave in Sti tuning!

Hope you sort it!

Oh oh oh oh! and also get a nutty box from nutbeam on uk legacy, reconditioned solenoid box and well worth the £45.

yeah connected the green plugs and took out the box it was clicking and the fans were goin but where is the code ye talk about ?????

Ciaran's in ASD - 0878330772

Give him a shout and he'll be able to sort it for you. He sorted mine over 2 years ago and its running perfect.

There are 2 black connectors next to the green ones, connect them turn ignition on and watch the check engine light flsh. Long flash is a ten, short pulse is a unit.

2 long and 2 short equal 22 and so on!

Actually it sounds like your o2 sensor is gone. No big deal. I'm in east galway-happy to check all for you if you want.

ok lads thanks for ur help... well today i took out the solenoid box and i sprayed carb cleaner in2 the solenoid. put it all back together and no change when driving . i didnt get the hose i ordered yet so i couldnt do that but to be honest the 2 pipes i took off to check were clean so i dunno now.. what about this knock link ???? i have no check engine light on will this matter when i connect the black connectors...... also sweatcakes where is ASD thanks.. my mate is pretty good with these cars and can remap them so he knows wat he is at.... he was saying the solenoid box an as he was at it that day an it started boosting ok it seems bit of a coincidence.....?????? :hammerhead:

ASD is up by the Walkinstown round about. Give him a ring and he'll tell you where exactly. Other then that if you say your mate knows th cars well get him to look at it again and fix it.

if the car was driving ok for past 2 weeks lads it probaly isnt a resistor pil missing ???? has anyone nutbeams email or contact number thanks

Well Paul. i read in one of the other forums its twinturbo system.... ie vacuum pipe i think .... i dunno man i thinks this solenoid box as stevie said 2 weeks ago as when he was checking it it started working till now ????

id take it back to him if you can he sorted it before he could do again or theres a few lads on here you could take it to that would have you up and going in no time

Lads,I'm appealing to everyone here-do not encourage anyone to interfere with the vacuum system on these cars-very very few know anything about them. The best thing you can do is take them to someone with the same car and some experience working on it.
