is there anyone near Laois that knows these cars.... as B4 says someone with one of these mite of had similar probs :ponder2:

Hey lad, like I said, get onto uk legacy and search for goosie, he came to cork to me, we fixed all vacum issues, restrictor pill issues and narrowed it down to knock sensor. My car was tested by Dave in Sti tuning on the day I bought it, it drove well, a small vacum issue he said, and then on the way home... nothing, no power etc.

Not Daves fault at all, there such a ba*tard of a system, one min fine, next giving trouble.
My car boosted ok, then crap then ok again, and I was missing the restrictor pill on one of my hoses.
3 restrictors in the main engine and one in line 2 of the solenoid box.

Gimme a shout if you wanna talk. I can give you his details to contact Goosie

Yeah thanks again i sent him an email see what he says.... i disconnected the battery and reset ecu but never made a difference still no boost but when i reconnected the black plugs i got just a steady cel flash so no code.... is this normal i thought the car would of drove fine again for another while or atleast a few mins but nothin

If you disconnected the battery then the fault code would have been wiped.

yeah i drove out the road and it made no difference.. i connected the black wires and the fault was still cleared i would of thought the code wud be there again or that the car would be boostin again if no code.

Lads,I'm appealing to everyone here-do not encourage anyone to interfere with the vacuum system on these cars-very very few know anything about them.

i do

im in talks with him now via email!!

@ Goosie!

Yes you do my good man! Goosie is the Nutbeam of Ireland!
Hell sort it!

PS Goosie, did you get that parcel off The prof on uk Legacy yet? Did it work!

update lads, spoke to James on the phone, apparently he has literally no primary boost, he has secondary but not primary, from what he says, his boost kicks in at 5500rpm ie secondary!!

did a test on the wastgate duty solenoid, im sure youv all done it, disconnect lines 5 and 6 and get insane primary boost by re routing the exhaust gas all to the primary, well instead of getting the usual 5 million bar of boost he got none!!

so what do with think the cause of a none working turbo would be??

DISCUSS!!

Sounds strange because the secondary turbo takes boost pressure FROM the primary turbo in order for it to spool up (hence the drop in primary turbo pressure just before the secondary turbo kicks in)

well thats not strictly true. the gas is just rerouted by the exhaust gas supply control valve and then the intake air control valve before its get near the primary!! totally separate

if the primary isnt boosting for whatever reason the secondary still can!!

its not a solenoid problem before anyone says so. if it was then he would have no secondary charging either!!

its a toughy

if he has no primary, try pulling the pipe off from the controller to the wastegate. think its ither 10 or 23, should boost then, just take it easy with the pedal as it will want to overboost

Faulty wastegate or actuator? No boost from a turbo suggests;

- wastegate open
- massive exhaust leak (you'd kind of know about this I guess!)
- broken exhaust or compressor wheels (possible if car has had boost increased, but would not be intermittent)
- car in limp mode (basically opens the wastegate so no boost builds) - I am not familiar with twin turbo control, but it is unlikely that it would only affect one of the turbos though

Best approach is to remove the hose going to the actuator on the faulty turbo (edit to add: as per above post, DOH!) - assuming you get boost you will hit fuel cut very quickly (head through windscreen moment). But be careful - someone may have fitted a fuel cut defender - you just want to see if boost builds on primary - if it does, back off immediately! Assuming you still have a problem it is mechanical with the actuator or turbo. If you get boost from the primary the problem is electronic.

I am in Dublin and would be happy to take a look (have Deltadash, so can also check for CELs) - but don't think you are close.

Thanks lads ive been reading up on all these actuators and wastegates...and im now thinking this is the problem... thinking now of bringing up to ye in sti tuning... wat do ye charge for lookin at it (labour) bare in mind im not workin lol?????

ok lads i checked the actuator valve on the secondary turbo and its all tight so that hasnt came loose.. really think its this box now

well lads fitted boost gauge today i had 4mm id... i have it T in to hose 11 and i get a reading on idle at around -7 it doesnt really go the whole way to 0 when reved up so im thinking the id hose is little thick maybe??? im not sure am i suppose to use 3mm.. anyway ive ordered that... i get no boost as expected off primary but at around 6k getting 0.9 bar boost... seems very low as my last impreza was 1.6 bar i know thats high but it had forge pistons and was a uk 300..
