Yeah in fairness i was a while looking for mine..looked at a good few bangers..Its funny how many people out there describe the car as mint and running 100% and then you go look at it and the things in bits..Very frustrating..But as you said buying one that needs an engine is a very good idea..At least you can build to the spec you want and you know what bits are going into it and by who..

Anyway sorry for the off topic..Best of luck with the search sweetcakes..Il keep an eye out for you.

Did you buy yours with a bit of a spec and mapped? Or did you buy it pretty standard? Virtually none of the adds I've seen mention having the car mapped and have induction kits and all sorts of mods stuck on the cars :hammerhead:

Thats the most appealing thing about building your own alright, I can pick the builder and the bits that go into the engine, gives you a little more confidence, especially as I'd be responsible for the block from new effectively so no need to worry about how its been treated before.

Appreciate you keeping an eye, if you hear of anything, then let me know

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza

Just to point out that he's done work on a few members cars without issue. Doing a rebuild for a member at the minute. All mapped successfully be Simon so I'd say that would say he does them right.

So as the car is no longer for sale theres no point getting into anything else here lads.

Enjoy your car redfitz and best of luck with the search for yours Robbie. You'll find the one for you just don't rush which I'm sure you won't.

Now see that's the kind of thing I'm after, looks stunning  .. Did i mention i'm in the market if you wanna sell :1poke:

See thats ideal, stage 1 mods, rebuilt engine by a reputable builder and mapped for said mods, fully alarmed, gauges and a few other extras and advetising at a very accurately priced €5995 for a full year ago. Is it also a V Limited cause of the roof hatch?

To think that a year on now and there are still dreamers out there today advertising for €7-8k for a V5, unmapped and needing work :cuckoo: :cuckoo: .. A good mapped V5 in my mind is worth about €4.5-5k nowadays

VF48 will be a nice addition to the car, you should see some pretty nice figures with that

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

Cheers lads..Agreed about price..If i was sellin it id only be sticking it up for what i paid and expecting a bit of a drop..Its by no means mint..Its a good one IMO but i wouldnt call it a minter.Oh and yeah its a v-limited..Checked it off the chassis number to be sure.

I dont like those pics of it in the ad..It looks a bit weird..

Heres one i took after i got it and cleaned it..Also threw on the decals on the side..Think there a nice touch..

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

Robbie, id say you need to get a defo figure in your head, Buying one with engine gone is grand, but fook me they cost money to get back going... your proablly looking at 3k for a 99/00 with engine gone + cost of rebuild of your choice+any modifications you want to do and then cost of mapping, your probably looking at up close to 7 or 8k man :dontknow:

You going to have to watch out for baulky gears on type Rs... and if a car aint running, well you cant test it then so gear box can be fooked and thats more money...
Sometimes i find its when you over analyse things and try to cover all bases, its when you can get caught out

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

Looks great in the pic there Dec  .. I keep telling myself that I can't expect a showroom condition minter for a car that's been on the road for the last 11/12 years but I do expect something that has been maintained to a good standard.. Something that requires a bit of work to get right would be ok but something crashed or rusting is just not worth the hassle.

@Ken - I am trying to be very patient and just wait to see what comes up. If something like deco's above comes up then that would be ideal and I could throw a bit of money at it myself then. I have a criteria in my head with regards to mileage, rebuilds etc and I know how much I am willing to spend on each. Hard to put down in writing though.

Something with a blown engine is an option but you are dead right about it being a risk with the box/diff. I have been thinking about it recently and to take the chance would really depend on the car and the price i was getting it for. A car with some good mods and a blown engine would be great and I wouldn't mind then spending a few quid more then getting my own build done. You have to build in that risk factor though.

The thought of just going up and getting an 03 blob twin scroll had crossed my mind as they are one of my 2 favourite imprezas (type r #1 obviously) but as it will just be an odd weekend toy, I want the rawness of the type r. Although, if my search proves fruitless, I will move up and find a clean 03 on JDM instead

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

robbie i reckon if your waiting for a clean type r your not going to find one in this country. most of the cars are trashed and the really good condition ones the owners are going to probably lock away or keep for good. Most of them are expensive in england alright and i dont no the vrt rate for them but heres a nice clean looking one for ok money http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2260463.htm
if i were you id stick to your idea about getting a type r shell and building to your spec. it will be a bit more expensive bit it will be well worth it as you will have a perfectly healthy car after the build.

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

a good car but at a cheap price? i dont think there are many out there anymore. If its cheap its for a reason. A good car is worth paying for. :subaru:

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

I just cann't beleave the price of that RA. hat fella needs his had examined. Blows mine right out of the water at that price if its a nice car. His lose could be your gain Rob if you thought of getting it, STi spoiler and your away in a hack.

Just cann't see it been that clean for that money though.

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

Looks a bit to good to be true, but then again in the current climate you have to look at the kind of market for a car like that, he probably knows its a limited market and maybe wanting a quick sale. Im sure when the time comes robbie, you will get a nice example.

Re: 98 v5 type-r impreza Not for sale now lads sorry

this bugeye RA was on donedeal and was sold approx. 2 months ago.
Either the new owner lost the passion for it too quickly or theres something else... :ponder2:
Looks very clean on the pictures tho.
