Quality of petrol in Ireland

The car wouldn't know what to do with it. This is like eating McDonald's burgers all your life and they server you Gordon Ramseys meal ????
In all seriosness l thought you only get increase in bhp if you have the car mapped for said fuel?

This is both true and untrue-ish!

Higher octane fuel needs more compression to burn, this means that it?s more stable and doesn?t pre-ignite, it doesn?t give any more power at all. However, as Zheiko points out, many cars use the knock sensor to detect pre-ignition and, when they do so, they retard the timing, thus reducing the power that the engine creates. By running a higher octane fuel, the engine will perform better up as far as manufactures specs - to that end, a higher octane fuel can see more power - to a point.

If Jap cars are set up for say 99 Ron fuel then running lower will cause pre-ignition, car retards ignition timing = less power. Running 99ron gives optimal performance - running more than 99ron will still only give you optimal performance unless you map specifically for the higher octane rating.

Remember driving jap import cars home from the docks years ago and being blown away by the power they had and then after a day or 2 the the power seem to be down  New nothing about cars being mapped then it was the difference between 99 and 95 petrol

Anyone interested in getting some of the NF boosters? I will be ordering, PM me for the prices and if you want some

updated original post with results from MAXOL petrol station - amazing results, so far the best.

TLDR: if you can, go for maxol petrol, otherwise Circle K.

Next tests will be performed at standard Circle K Natural(non-premium)

edit: if someone wants to see the logs, I can provide those, but its tons of numbers, so at your own risk:)

Great to hear that the maxol stuff is good .

Have ran my own car on maxol since I bought it and always found the car ran well on it .even when I had the rx, it went best on maxol .

So much for all the petrol that comes into the country been the same

great effort Zheiko. just checked their website for the nearest Maxol station. there is only one in Tipperary in Tipptown some odd 50km away

The fact that the petrol quality is different doesn't necessarily mean it comes from same source - they can mix it with sh*t and additives even in here.

Its also important to remember, that fact that petrol at my local Maxol is good, doesnt mean that your Maxol will have same quality. I'd wanna believe it would, but there is way too many variables here that I dont understand, so I cannot rule it out

I always use the maxol in gorey , relatively new station , well maintained etc , I'd be willing to bet you'd get similar results from it ,
I'd also be willing to bet if you sampled the local topaz to me you'd get really different results to yours , even putting diesel into the work van is something I avoid , the place floods every year , shocking stuff , lawn mower won't run right on it

Great stuff man, fair play to you for doing this, very informative.
It is true also about different petrol stations, they say the busier petrol station will always have better fuel as fresh stuff going in more often.
Don't know how true that is but it's a logical point like..

I would want to believe that as well, but I dont think its necessarily true - the Maxol station where I got this good petrol is actually kinda small, has only 2 pumps, and every time I got there was empty. So there might be some truth to it, but not 100% rule

Where?s that maxol garage and thanks for info, great to get some evidence rather than relying on guesswork

Brilliant work and defintely objective evidence from it[emoji1303]

With the setup on my car, I've noticed the car ran smother with Miles Plus from Circle K. Would be interested to see it on a Dyno with that.

Dyno day next lads?
