Quick help please lads!

A few weeks ago my dad's car window got put through, I handled everything with the Insurance company and the replacement.

Checked out the Autoglass website and they had a detailed video of their "outstanding quality & service". Rang them up to get a quote.

It went like this;

"What window is it?"

"Rear right passenger."

"What car?"

"Hyundai Trajet."

"Is it a tinted window?"

"No."

"Is it clear glass or green glass."

"Clear."

"OK, that comes back as €225 all in for the replacement."

That was that, booked them and they came out to change the window. Now, on their site it shows them taking the door card off, using a hoover to get rid of all the broken glass left over & replacing the window.

Here's what happened when they came out.

They took the car out of the drive, opened the door, wiped all the broken glass on to the path and road while wearing gloves. Took the door card and that out and changed the window, gave the seat a bit of a hoover and then pissed off.

Went out to the car and there was still glass all over the inside of the car, all over the road and all over the path. I had to go cleaning the fucking thing up in case a child in the estate playing fell on the broken glass. Afterward I rang Autoglass and told them I wasn't paying them a penny for their shambles of a service. The girl over the phone apologised and said she'd send the lads back out to clean everything properly but I told her they didn't need to as I already did it when they left.

Then 2 weeks later we get a bill out. The invoice says we were being charged for green glass. 1. I told the thick fucks it was clear glass. 2. They didn't fucking supply green glass! 3. My dad swears that it's perspex and not glass they put in it.

They rang me the other morning demanding payment and I told them they weren't getting anything.

Fairly sure the next step is a solicitors letter and I'm fucked in a way because I never took pictures before I cleaned all the glass because I didn't think they'd act like a complete scumbag of a company and do this shite!

1. The insurance company covered it and the cheque is there so just pay them? Nothin' lost outta my pocket.
2. Ring insurance company and tell them this story, they're the one paying for it so they hopefully wouldn't be too happy hearing what their money got spent on.
3. How do you tell the difference between glass & perspex?
4. If a child had fell on the glass they'd have a serious fucking claim on their hands!

5. If anyone here works for Autoglass, no offence intended, some people actually do their job apart from the 2 yuppee's that changed my glass.

How do you tell the difference between glass & perspex?

Perspex should be more flexible therefore tommorrow go out to car.Place thumb in centre of the pane and apply pressure. You should see the reflections of what is behind you bending in circular fashion. The new pane could be plastic coated and appear like perspex. If it's glass it won't flex.In my opinion move on with your life and pay up.It isn't worth the stress since you have little evidence and it will look like you just didn't want to pay in the first place.Good luck

Told them to stop contacting me as it's not my car and the only reason I was down on the form as the customer is because my dad was still working when they called to do the work. He was there when they were working on it, just not when they came 'round. So they can go do the runaround and ask his insurance company or someone for his contact details. The joys of not sharing the same surname, they haven't it sussed I'm his son. :D

Cheeky bastards demanding I pay them money I don't owe them, someone else does. =P

My dad sorted it, cashed the cheque from the insurance company and sent a bank draft.

Some Insurance companies never pay Autoglass directly as they're not approved by all insurance companies in Ireland.

Take Axa for example. If you had your windows smashed in your car and rang Autoglass to replace them, Axa only give you up to 250 towards the repairs. If you use an Axa approved glass repair/replace garage or company, the cover is unlimited. And it wont affect your no claims.

They rang me again today because they were "confused as to why the draft was paid by someone else". Explained again that the repairs weren't carried out on my car they were just harassing me for the money because the lads doing the work wanted someone to print and sign the form before they started and I wasn't going to sign my dad's name. Then the woman on the other end of the phone said she was very sorry about it and the lads who changed the window should have waited 'til the insured person was there to carry out the work, not get just anyone to put down some details. She also said she'd look in to why glass was left all over the path and road in the estate. Then again, I doubt that very much as they've been paid now.

God forbid if it ever happens again, I'll ring the insurance company and get the car in to their nearest approved glass repaid company. Lesson learned. :sucks:
