So who went?? thoughts on the weekend as a whole? and compared to previous years?
also throw up a few pics a took too
i took hundreds of pics, il sift throw them and upload the best tonight or tomorrow
GOOD POINTS:
i thought it was a great weekend, saw LOADS of scoobys, even had a nice drive with a blue 2dr classic and a white leggy between one of the stages, our own mountain drive untill we got stuck behind a camper
see lots of special cars you dont see everyday like - a MINT lancia delta (i nearly creamed myself)
Saw a lovely blue Evo X (again i nearly rear ended the car in front of me looking at it
way too many more to mention, pics to come
great to see the lads that did turn up in twincams and the like didnt mess at any of the stages or anywhere during the day, i heard they kept it for the mountains at night, which if they feel they have to do it, probably the best place for them to go at it for all of us.
BAD POINTS:
Healy pass not being opened between hte 2 stages to make our way south of the next stage, i had to drive on the worst road in history to go around it
front splitter isnt in the best of nic after it, few scratches so hopefully will clean out of it with a bit of persuasion. good test for the coilovers which they passed in flying colours but i do need to replace both front drop links i reckon, the knocking was worrying at times.
other people drinking & pure drunk at stages. on sunday morning at molls gap, im sure someone here must have seen it, everyone at the gap was laughing at him. this lad trying to climb a muddy hill in a mess. nearly got the staged called over him as he kept falling and thankfully didnt hurt himself or it would have been called. - dopes like that are not wanted. saw more drink at stages this year than any previous years.
seen as im 21 driving a 03 impreza sti replica i did get 2 or 3 people shouting 'dads car' at me which if they they knew anything about cars they would have noticed i have drum brakes at the rear which kind of gives it away but they were dopes so that explains that. other than that, car got endless attention which im chuffed about, loads of people taking pics and nice comments
The weather held up - ish
mostly dry but cold at high stages due to the wind.
thats my take on my favourite weekend of the year in my car - roll on the lakes 2013
***anyway as promised, here are the first of the pics, waiting for the second half to upload now
how the car looked in youghal on the way down saturday morning
Ended up on this goat track thanks to the brains that decided not to open the pass between the stages
2 of my front drop links bit the dust here.
Came across this leaving shanera (i think) thankfully no one seriously injured. car didnt look damaged which was strange.
my first time of the weekend pulling up molls gap stage , fun to the say least. will never beat the sunday morning spin up at 6am tho. UNREAL!
serious little bumble bee this C2 was. banging all the way to carragh lake so it was.
one of my favourite things about the lakes is pulling up to the stages and admiring the cars that show up.
more of these to follow later
stopped for one of many leaks that weekend
heading down molls gap with this and the 944 5.3 litre behind heading back to service area. i was booting it enjoying myself at the they were effortlessly stuck up my rear so in i pulled and left them off
Rest of the pics added
Deffo one of the nicest cars i saw over the weekend, the offset on those rota torques was crazy low
something about this that i liked
missed this stage - last one on saturday - sat nav got tired so we ended up 50 yards from the finish, although made for some nice close up pics where they wernt going slow to say the least
prob my favourite car in the rally - serious machine
look at these for REAR brakes on it, yes they are the rear brakes
this was crazy clean for a rally car
Then sunday morning arose - we stayed in dingle in a friends cottage for the night , bit of a drive but well worth it. left at 4 am . headed up the gap with hundreds of cars at 6am which was class.
Grabbed a few minutes sleep in the car up there as it was still dark untill some spanner thought it would be fun to bang on the car and wake us up

what else would bring hundreds of cars to back arse of no where on a sunday morning to watch the sun rise
loads of nice cars made the journey - this of what looked pretty genuine to me although there were numerous discussions about it by passing people about it, got more attention than anything else .
P2000
Always liked these as i had one as my first car. this was a lovely example with lots of carbon fibre and mugen bits
there was this too which i heard was punching out over the 300bhp mark for a 1.3 turbo is crazy. dont quote me on it tho, it was a bit of eavesdropping
ridiculously clean is the only way to describe this beaut.
The famous gap as the first safety car passed through - showing the sheer crowd at such a crazy early time
The final stage on sunday found us at a brutal long stretch part with not a bend in site but made for some nice high speed shots and pretty close too which included a very hairy moments of jumping backwards what harm
the stratos rep kit car
the sound of this S2 quattro was only timeless
thats all folks - i have more but no point in totally boring yee
Enjoy

with these

i said it last year seen as the stages were exactly the same as this year, never made sense. just means everyone has a long drive after no sleep in the morning at about 4 or 5am to the first stage
