So who went?? thoughts on the weekend as a whole? and compared to previous years?

also throw up a few pics a took too

i took hundreds of pics, il sift throw them and upload the best tonight or tomorrow

GOOD POINTS:

i thought it was a great weekend, saw LOADS of scoobys, even had a nice drive with a blue 2dr classic and a white leggy between one of the stages, our own mountain drive untill we got stuck behind a camper

see lots of special cars you dont see everyday like - a MINT lancia delta (i nearly creamed myself)
Saw a lovely blue Evo X (again i nearly rear ended the car in front of me looking at it
way too many more to mention, pics to come

great to see the lads that did turn up in twincams and the like didnt mess at any of the stages or anywhere during the day, i heard they kept it for the mountains at night, which if they feel they have to do it, probably the best place for them to go at it for all of us.

BAD POINTS:

Healy pass not being opened between hte 2 stages to make our way south of the next stage, i had to drive on the worst road in history to go around it :icon_sad: front splitter isnt in the best of nic after it, few scratches so hopefully will clean out of it with a bit of persuasion. good test for the coilovers which they passed in flying colours but i do need to replace both front drop links i reckon, the knocking was worrying at times.

other people drinking & pure drunk at stages. on sunday morning at molls gap, im sure someone here must have seen it, everyone at the gap was laughing at him. this lad trying to climb a muddy hill in a mess. nearly got the staged called over him as he kept falling and thankfully didnt hurt himself or it would have been called. - dopes like that are not wanted. saw more drink at stages this year than any previous years.

seen as im 21 driving a 03 impreza sti replica i did get 2 or 3 people shouting 'dads car' at me which if they they knew anything about cars they would have noticed i have drum brakes at the rear which kind of gives it away but they were dopes so that explains that. other than that, car got endless attention which im chuffed about, loads of people taking pics and nice comments

The weather held up - ish :ponder2:
mostly dry but cold at high stages due to the wind.

thats my take on my favourite weekend of the year in my car - roll on the lakes 2013

***anyway as promised, here are the first of the pics, waiting for the second half to upload now

Ended up on this goat track thanks to the brains that decided not to open the pass between the stages :wall:
2 of my front drop links bit the dust here.

Then sunday morning arose - we stayed in dingle in a friends cottage for the night , bit of a drive but well worth it. left at 4 am . headed up the gap with hundreds of cars at 6am which was class.
Grabbed a few minutes sleep in the car up there as it was still dark untill some spanner thought it would be fun to bang on the car and wake us up :snooty:

what else would bring hundreds of cars to back arse of no where on a sunday morning to watch the sun rise
DSCF5558.jpg

DSCF5562.jpg

loads of nice cars made the journey - this of what looked pretty genuine to me although there were numerous discussions about it by passing people about it, got more attention than anything else .

should have come and introduced yourself bud, yeah i saw that c63 v12 alright, looked like a beast.
you got that daddys car rubbish too so, its funny when you look at the cars they are driving haha
ah stop, they should have decked that lad in the middle of the road and left him there for the whole stage. the stewards had some patience when he was up in their face.
the guard had balls of steel alright, few close calls with the cars that came in wide :shock2:

yeah its shame with less entrants, especially the group N which is taking the biggest hit, sad to see less and less every year , its the insurance that kills them :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

I disagree with the planning of the rally.I did not like the fact the Saturday stages were around Killarney,so obviously Killarney is the place to go out that night.
Then Sundays stages are around Castletownbere. You wake up Sunday morning not after any sleep due to lads in their novas and civics with no exhausts going flat out up the street all nite. I am not exaggerating either 4 and 5 am they were still burning rubber around town.
Molls gap is closed for the day,so you have to go all the way around through Kilgarvan to reach Castletownbere. The road is too narrow and slow for the amount of traffic on it so it takes 2 hours to get there.

They should have had Saturdays stages around Castletownbere. Then the fans would go to Killarney for the night and have not much of a drive in the morning around Killarney. Also open the bloody pass between stages. The cops should be lifting the cars of the clowns lapping the town all night. Overall i was not impressed with the entry list and i did not see as many stages as i would like due to not able to get in to them. The amount of people on the streets later on was on the verge of kicking off a few times. I saw 1 arrest and a few female boxing matches. Overall a good weekend but the promoters must try harder imo.

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

yes saw that muppet at molls with his buddies. think i saw youre car up there lloyd but was gone by the time i left the stage. as for the boy racers sick to death of theese guys took over firies village at 3 am on friday night and there is roumers that they blocked an ambulance from going on its journey on the tralee road sat night until they had finished their dounuts.my real symphathy lies with the true rally fans like the one from from kilgarvin who died of a heart attack at molls gap on saturday morning watching a rally

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

Couldnt agree more with you gonzogicken  i said it last year seen as the stages were exactly the same as this year, never made sense. just means everyone has a long drive after no sleep in the morning at about 4 or 5am to the first stage :new_gmorning:

the pass not being opened between the stages is a no brainer,

i was happy enough with making 6 of the 8 stages, if it was planned better by organisers it would be possible to make 7 or even all 8!

buckshot - yeah i had to leave the stage just as the classic cars started to come through coz it was in a doggy spot because the tool on the other side of the road in a toilet of a beemer 318 didnt park close enough to the ditch so cars were nearly scraping my car going past so i moved it before the unthinkable happened.

yeah i heard that from duggie on the mic at the gap on sunday morning - was shocked. nice way to go for a true rally fan i guess.

They were sum retards, your a bit long in the tooth to be gettin comments like that. Typical Irish jealousy

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

Hey the daddy's car lads guess were they were coming from
Yeah thats right the pub the luders
There was a nasty ass crash here in Portlaoise this evening 2 twin cams an 4 other cars
On the motorway jus before the toll bridge

Was it me or were there not as many cops around this year only seemed to be 2 unmarked cars
A paddy wagon an 2 marked cars

@that ape on molls gap that copper never once told you man off or said anything to him I taught it was jacky heely ray in a cop uniform lol looked like he no more wanted to be there than shep the dog
The poor marshals had to do all the work

Did you hear the price of that prodrive mini wrc car that duggie hughes was on about
112 pounds sterling a km an £80.000 pound jus to rent it for the weekend lord that's some price
An £120.000 pound for that red mark 2 escort with the ford milington diamond engine some car do

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

6 car crash? nasty one alright :icon_omg:
i wouldnt be relying on the structural protection of a twincam to be honest, cant imagine they hold up too well in a coming together.

ah lad, that guard was a joke, he either had no interest in the rally or he was out last night and was still in bits, that bale was holding him up i reckon
yeah the poor marshalls, anyone in the state of your man there or the fella running across the road the whole time is never going to take a marshall in a luminous jacket seriously.
yeah i expected more gaurds, after all the hype about the gaurds going to be everywhere i even brought the exhaust baffle silencer with me just in case they thought it might be too loud so i could pop it the backbox and keep them quite but thankfully not a eye twitched at me.

yeah serious money for the cooper ,was disappointed not too see it there, he used the WRC corolla E11 instead. thats no tyres and no petrol too
hear about craig breen from duggie too, craig is from my area down here went to school with him, i know him well, hes in the wrc - i know he said 120k sterling, but since he won the academy last year its nearer 180k sterling an event now and increasing, serious money

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

An £120.000 pound for that red mark 2 escort with the ford milington diamond engine some car do know that kevin o donaghue spent over 200k on his mark 2 sadly another big bill as he rolled it saturday morning, fergus o mearas car would be heading for that sort of money too

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

Jesus brothers that's some money like you said it only takes one wrong move an all that money is down the swoney lord

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics

Well boys i had a savage weekend anyway, done 973kms from fri to today and only cost me 140euro, roads are amazing doh. Loved molls gap, savage roads and views

Re: Rally of the Lakes 2012 - after thoughts & pics
