recommend me a car

Go for a Mazda 6 savage sharp looking car with right factory wheels the latest td generation use the "skyactive " philosophy where the jap engineers go mad in the search to make it better

Or buy the vxr8 the missus wouldn't know :multijump:

Everone has thier own idea of what car would be best, some wouldn't touch a ford others a toyota, at the end of the day you have to like the look and feel of it,

if the newer diesels are looked after they can give no bother, at all.

i'd go with what ya like in your budget, i had a 2.2 accord for 4 years not a days bother apart from a cracked manifold which honda covered fully under warrenty, some people would ya tell its a bad engine not if its looked after, have an a4 sline avant now, few years back i wouldn't have touched an audi, but so far so good bought it from glasgow audi full s/history, i service it every 5k miles oil and 3 filters every service, its all down to servicing with these yokes.

I agree with you there man they all can give trouble the best advice is like above pick something you like and buy it but for you own sake forget about the year and focus more importantly on getting the lowest mileage you can afford

I've been looking at new-ish diesels for a while now joe and nothing stands out apart from the accord which i can't afford in any decent mileage. If I was in your position, that's what I'd be going for, they are gorgeous.

they are nice rob but trying to get a 2010-2011 under 100.00 miles is not easy but the look well

i had 2008 vrs diesal estate in the past, great all rounder between power/economy, wife currently has 2009 honda accord diesal es gt spec, class car, sat nav, leather etc, originally uk car, genuine parts expensive but worth it as never a days trouble with it, honda accord for me all the way

cheers pedro  what milage was on yours when you bought it and how much did it cost from the uk . pm me if you want

49,000 miles ish on the clock with full honda service history when bought, service book all stamped to verify mileage, bought in may 2013 for 16,000 euro straight sale from garage , i had brought many cars in from uk before and was going to do the same here but when i worked out the maths with vrt, exchange rates, ferry, accomodation, etc there was nothing in it and since it was a uk spec car originally coming with one years full warranty it was a no brainer, the wife loves it and secretly so do i for a long journey anyway and the es gt spec is class on it, very easy to work on and service, i was looking for ages for a clean low mileage one though, the new toyota avensis do give trouble, kia, ford are good in fairness and i like the new i40 hyundai but know nothing about them but for me the accord looks the best and imo is bullet proof if looked after properly, enjoy d shopping tough

See a lot of people commenting on diesels being unreliable over a 100k etc.
Lads, I've had mainly diesels over the years and some with 300k plus miles on them and they don't per definition give problems!

It's all about servicing... I would sooner buy a diesel with 140k miles on it which was serviced well (read better / more often than specified service schedule) than say a diesel that as done 40k miles in 7 years with only minimal servicing (I would consider the manufacturer service schedule to be minimal). E.g. VAG "long life servicing" will definitely absolutely kill your engine and indeed problems seen around 100k miles, but service it every 15k kms instead of the 20k (or 30k specified on some models for a short while) and it will happily do several hundred K without too much bother.

Another note on diesels... they are diesels and not petrols... and when you drive them like petrols, they will die quicker.
They are not made to "redline" and especially not on a regular basis - it kills them.

If you drive a diesel very little, or lots of short journeys, you will get expensive repairs like injectors, DPF clogged etc.
So be weary of diesels which lived in town and did small mileage for the years as for example a DPF will set you back big bucks.

Ireland, with its roadtax driven love for diesels, has a huge overhang of diesel cars with DPF, injector, EGR and valve carbon issues that are now starting to become systemic - Too many people who should have bought a petrol bought a diesel and then drove it around town for short journeys and are now getting landed with dear repair bills...

cheers man there the only car i havent heard anyone giving out about saying there bad . usually there is some one who owned one and gave out about it so could be on a winner
vag car are hit and miss to be honest i have owned 2 vw's from new 08 transporter and a 03 golf are there are over rated the transporter was doing motorway way miles with nothing in it only a few tools in it and it sh*t its self after 30k replaced engine under warranty the replacement engine blew 2 sets of turbo seals an oil cooler a manifold cos it was a 5 cylinder and 6 rear wheel bearings in 190.000klm . and i wasnt alone there are hundreds of vw's like this . dont get me wrong great van to drive but for there price there over rated . the golf was a great car to be fair 200.000 miles on only servicing items couldn't say a bad word about it .
but would i buy another vw not a chance unless it was free

no :snooty: not a chance being messed with too much needs to be and new shape original sti forester  but cheers for ther heads up man

couldn't have said it better

is there such a thing as a well minded diesel car that has be serviced as it should with less that 100000 miles on the clock . good second hand diesel cars are not out there .
thought i had found a lovely very clean 2011 a4 avant with 60.000klm on the clock so off i went on a 2 hour drive to see in a garge . to say i was dissapointed would be an understatment . first glance the car looked good few small marks nothing major but after having a good look around it between the ware on the seats and steering wheel and nearly a 6-8mm lip on the rear discs there was more like 160000 if not more on it . and when i said it to him he told me they were very soft discs and that was the mileage was i intrested or not :angry1: :angry1:
i think i'll be sticking with what i have unless it sells and i'll head to uk to find a car :facepalm or a forester sti .

I'm going to the UK on Wednesday for that exact reason for my uncle he wants an 09 focus diesel and all that's here is clocked scrap or high mileage cars. I found him an 09 5 door zetec 1.8 tdci with one owner and just 16000 miles on it with full history, why are there no cars like that in Ireland a country half the size of England where do people be driving to :-(
