Re: Replacement car opinions

to be honest paul i'd spend the 600-800 on fixing the sti would it cost that much to put right and have it reliable . not easy to get a good car for that kinda money . some celicas suffer from front suspension problems something about double wishbone suspension think its big money to put it right not sure on the year it affects .

Re: Replacement car opinions

I dont think 600-800 would put it right and reliable to be honest there is a least 1 cylinder full of water so it wont turn over along with the head gasket and thermostat being gone head needing reskimming and crack in the outlet manifold id also be inclined to change the turbo as well with that amount of steam going through it it cant have done it much good from what i can work out cheapest option to fix is to drop another engine into it, herself wants me come away from imprezas for a while as she said ive had bad karma with that car

Re: Replacement car opinions

I wouldnt be looking for anything nice for that money
already went down this road myself a few months back
when i was going to buy another cheap toy
anything really you buy for that money will need the same again spent on it (at least)
better to bye a nice clean standard car that wont give a days trouble
until you get back on your feet again
dont waste whatever money you have on a lemon
maybe you should accept that sports cars arent affordable to you right now plain and simple
save yourself more heartache Fella

Re: Replacement car opinions

that black celica looks alright, comfy car aswell....
the silver vectra looks well aswell, 4 doors and again a comfy car (had a 1.7td model about 10 years ago)

Re: Replacement car opinions

Make sure you test drive the Celica. I had an early one and loved it. But looking back it was dead as a maggot. As said if you buy too cheap you will have to spend a lot more to get it right. Good luck with the looking though.

Re: Replacement car opinions

Why are you lokoking to spend that amount of money on a car that's just going to be a guzzler as well? Seeing as you are trying to save money at the moment, why not make your budget sub €500 and get yourself a diesel tramp which will save you money on the cost price and half your fuel bills which will put a lot more money in your pocket on the run in to the wedding.

Re: Replacement car opinions

Cheers guys was looking at diesels but the majority of clean ones with an nct (which is a must for me at the min) that would be suitable for the driving i do are coming in pricey enough im not to pushed on how much power the car has im just after a comfortable cruiser cos i would be up and down to Laois every few weeks and it would more than likely be getting taken to england at some stage this year as well, if the car looks nice it will be a bonus but as long as its mechanically sound then im happy ive the likes of passat's, mondeo's and vectra's on the list as as well but i like the look of the celica i know they're quite comfortable on a long drive and that toyota engines are usually very reliable apart from the issue with the new shape celica vvti engines

Re: Replacement car opinions

van is out the question unless ive a weekend car (plan after wedding ) cos of katie we need two cars she's big enough now that a 2 door should be fine but def need the extra seats

I'd be thinking the same as Sweetcakes,
get a passat diesel, even the 115bhp are nice to drive,
they reckon petrol is going to go up as far as €2 per litre this year!
if you are going petrol you should try and stay 1.6 or below and save up
to fix your weekend fun

Re: Replacement car opinions

The impreza will be going somewhere either way now its a good candidate to be fixed but it wont be until after the wedding and i want to go newage then the diesels etc i can find the majority have no test or run out within the next couple months which i dont want to have to deal with so im looking for a 6month or up nct i know the running costs will be higher with a petrol but its still gonna be less than ive been having the past few years when ive been running a scoob on a daily basis so i will still be saving that way and less insurance and cheaper parts etc will help as well.

Re: Replacement car opinions

i like robbie's thinking . makes most sense imo

Re: Replacement car opinions

paul as said if you buy cheap you will always have to spend to get it right or the way you want it,be careful with celicas if they have the super strut suspension on the rear these can give bother and are big money to replace iirc about 400 hundred euro, just food for thought

Re: Replacement car opinions

Is this car just for you Paul?.

If so why something so big?. 1 litre Starlet. Mechanically bullet proof, never give trouble. Run on a sniff of petrol, cheap insurance and tax. Get the wedding behind you and the girlfriend happy then think about cars.

Re: Replacement car opinions

+1 or almera 1.4 early ones 99 - 01 bullet proof

Re: Replacement car opinions

The car is just for me but i often have Katie in the car and i do a fair bit of long range driving which is why im looking for a cruiser if it was just the half hour in and out of work every day thats the type of thing id be looking at and after the wedding will be getting as an everyday car when i have a scooby for the weekends, but at the min i need the space for taking the little one and all her stuff around down to laois etc (for a small person she takes up more space with her crap than id ever have expected couple years ago)
