STI - importing from Japan

Sunday Drivers
Hey,

looking for an advice. Would like to get WRX-STI 2.5l 08. And thinking about importing it from Japan (using jdm auction). The reason for importing it is that it seems like none of these are available here.

Any advice? Anything i should worry about or any other way to get it?

Also is there anyone here who used jdm auction before? Would like to get more details on the quality of their service, etc...

Yeah, I just learned the same. The Japanese version seems to have EJ227 engine 2.0 with 227kW. I would definitely go for the manual transmission.

Other question to consider is whether go over this import process which seems like a pain. (imported car before from the UK, but this seems riskier since you don't actually see the car until it is too late) or whether to relax the requirements and go for something older available locally. I do not want just a toy I want a car that I can rely on...

Too many questions...

if you use a reputable importer and the grading is accurate you will be fine but definitely need to be a grade 4 or over

Thanks will pay attention to the grades. Any advice on the "reputable importer" part?

don't know any in Ireland maybe jdm auction if anyone can vouch for them but in uk you have Litchfield imports, sva imports ,newera imports

Thanks a lot, going to check all the UK ones...

Jdm Auction Watch are the way to go...
Importing a Hatch is going to be expensive... considering what theat one was bought in Carrol and Roche for...

Auction Grades are really all over the shop, and what might be a bad grade in one house may an immacultate car in another, a car with front painted can be marked as crash repair, when it only got the bumper painted etc etc Some Auction houses wont take any chances as they are held accountable for the grade so its better to Grade at worst cae scenario....
You really need someone to inspect the car in Japan... and thats where the likes of JDM Auction Watch come in.

For the car you are talking about i think it may not work out well... for rarer, special models then yes...

just be careful importing an 08 impreza the tax will be mental you would be better off in an 07 hatch because its still only 700 odd too tax and is the new shape

Thanks for the advice. What model would you recommend that I go after? It does not have to be this one. I want around 300bhp for starters, want STI with AWD and manual gear. And I want something that i can take for a longer trip too without fearing a breakdown...

what is the link for these auctions lads
wouldnt mind a look

Not sure what the rules about posting links here are, so not going to. Just google "jdm auctions" or one of the uk suggestions - "litchfield imports", "sva imports" or "nevera imports".

Pretty good and easy to navigate site design on all of them

Good point, so many considerations ... sigh ;)

Well for example, to have something a bit rarer you could get a jdm Hawk Spec C out of UK for about 17 18k euro on the road here...
It will cost a good bit more direct from Japan and you have a 2-3 months wait..
You could try get a Hatch Spec C but its gonna cost

That doesn't sound bad. The thing is that I have a bad experience on getting a car from the UK. The biggest problem was/is the time. Need time to go around look at it there. Also I was told that they do not provide warranty if I get it there and take it here.

Any advice as to where / how ?

You aint going to get warranty out of Japan either buddy...

Very hard for anyone to offer warranty on a Performance..

There is a nice Red Hawk litchfield Spec C for sale at the moment.. lots of extras.. Red is very Rare... 17k Sterling do.. Check out Cams Performance on Facebook

If you want the peace of mind of Warranty you needt to got to a main dealer i think

Seems like NeveraImports offer a warranty on the imported cars. At least based on their website. But yes you are right, maybe I want too much.

Looking at the red one, it doesn't look too bad. Any other sites in the UK that you use / trust?
