Buy this.

Nice, but bit too old for my liking. I would like at least 2007, if not 2008. Thanks anyways

There'll be very little difference between that and a hawk or hatch sti. Don't let age dictate what you buy.

from what I gather
if it was registered before 30th off june 2008

Cars First Registered Outside Ireland

A private car first registered abroad prior to 1 January 2008 will be taxed on engine
size (cc). The new CO2 based system does not apply to second-hand imports that were
registered abroad prior to 2008.

A private car first registered abroad between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008
inclusive and subsequently registered in Ireland will be taxed on whichever is the lesser
of the motor tax rates based engine (cc) or CO2 emissions.

A private car first registered abroad after 1 July 2008 and subsequently registered in
Ireland will be taxed on the CO2 rate.

Oh nice, thanks a lot for this reference. So this means that I can get the 2008 from Jap and pay "the lesser of the two" which is the cc based tax. If I understand it correctly.

No way would I hand over 2k+ for tax...

Heard of a guy with a 2010 Evo saying that his road tax was working out at near €50 per week!!!!!!

Even if I had Millions, no way would I pay that...

I think myself the value for money lies in either a Uk Blobeye Sti or a Jdm Blobeye Sti... Spend 10k instead of 20
[/quote]

So to "conclude" this thread - I am going to follow your advice, getting a 05 Jdm Blob Sti from Hurst Cars. It really looks like better value for the money and the associated costs are lower too (tax, etc ...)

Think it's a good decision to knock the hatch on the head and stay away from 2.5..

But I have to say that car in hurst seems expensive, the had a spec c hawkeye about 6 months ago with low miles for 15500..
I would have thought a spec c blob eye would have been got for the price or less than that sti..???

I think even do that car maybe mint... Again it's in euros and vrt... It's going to be about 5k too much

Hm did not think that it is too expensive myself. What would be a good price for this car in your opinion?
It is this one as posted by somebody above:

Another question - do you know / can you recommend any independent mechanic that I can send over to take a look at? It is in the UK, Bedford. Or well anybody who can help me avoid the usual traps ...

Well done Lovley car :clap3:

Thanks, though the sale is not concluded yet ;) I just paid the deposit and did not see the car myself yet, which can change my opinion. Well fingers crossed :subaru:

btw how much will the vrt for this one be? I am not sure if I am using the vrt calculator correctly. It is showing me ~1k eur vrt, and I expected more than that. Not that I would complain...

If you use the model code off the vin plate, ask the garage what it says, that will get you an accurate vrt price or should do anyway..

The reason I am saying its expensive is that you will get Uk Wide track Blobs for 7-9k and some Jdm wide wide tracks for 9k..

They will probably have 50-60k on them.. If the lower miles on the white car is worth that much extra I don't know really.
You will probably have to consider mapping the car for our 95 octane which will be another few quid,

I just think at the end of it you will have a jdm wide track standing you maybe 15k euro or more... While the odd one is sold here for 8-9k euro... Whether being a first owner since japan and low miles is worth that much to you that a personal choice...

These aren't really a collectors car, so mileage wouldn't be concern of mine..

I'd agree with Ken. Mileage and sale wouldn't concern me. I'd even check out scoobynet and scooby Ireland classifieds. Piston heads and private sales. With that budget, take your time and stick up a wanted ad, someone might be thinking of selling soon.

I'd definitely go for a widetrack JDM blob.

With that budget IMO you should be going for a hawk spec c

That blob is far to expensive and it's from Japan so there a good chance it was clocked

Probably €20k on the road here including mapping.

It's a really nice original looking car but you could have a lot more for your money I think.

I had a uk sti blob a while back, it was an 03 so wasn't dccd or wide track... I have to say it changed my mind about uk cars, it was mapped but only with an exhaust and air filter.. And I have to say it was a nice rapid car to drive... So I would definitely consider a nice Uk/ Irish 04/05 wide track Blob a good option... There is very little difference apart from the jdm being twin scroll... And that kind of looses the Subaru flat 4 sound appeal to some.

That Hurst car is gonna stand you mega bucks again you send a mechanic over, buy it, ship it, vrt it....
And at the end of it all, when we talk about warranty.. What warranty will you really have??? If the clutch goes it's not coverd most likely... And to avail If warranty work you have to go to Uk? So you kind of have a 400 euro travel cost to get warranty work done....???

None of use want to put a downer on the car, if your commited to it, it looks a lovely car and a reputable company, but maybe you have jumped a bit into the decision?
You face a 6-7k price depreciation if you stick it on the Irish market the day after you bought it!
