Subaru Legacy B4 BL5 GT

Seems very low mileage for an 05. Just check wear on the car matches the mileage. There should be no wear on wheel or gear knob or mats or seats. It actually looks like it has a face lift front end from 07 onwards which is strange. Might mean its had a front end knock.

Just off the phone with him now. Proper dub as he was f'n nd blindin through every sentence. Bit strange when tryna sell a car tbh. :cuckoo:

Few reg flags came up over the conversation:

NO NCT - He said he had an accident in work yadda yadda out for 2 years car was sittin up. Might explain the new front end.
Something about an adjustable suspension? I presume these aren't standard? could be coilovers?
He didn't know what fuel he was using in it.
Said it needs a service - i don't get this when trying to sell a car.
Apparently had sum1 from Galway out to see it, 2 Polish guys and a guy from Killarney. Got 2 deposits but then both pulled out. :dontknow:

Other info:
Imported in Jan 08 (funny he knew that off by heart)
Full Subaru service history.
Had 14,000km when he brought it in. Has receipts from bringing it in.
Selling it because he wants to upgrade.

I don't know what to make of it. Some positives but alot telling me walk away.

What you guys think?

I'd go look at it anyway if you dont have far to travel. Make a better decision once actually seeing the car.

No harm to do a vehicle check and see what comes up. Could be best few euro you spend. Those car checks aren't that expensive.

probably using 95 in it so, no adjustable suspension as standard so must be coilovers. needs a service would mean oils and filters and timing belt kit so add a grand for all that especially if it was sitting up for 2 years, try get the nct history when it was first done and should help verify mileage along with car check.

True no harm in lookin at it. Its the opposite side of the city for me so not too far.

I could believe the mileage with it sittin up for 2 years, its the fact that there's no nct and no service. If i was selling a car those would be the first 2 things i'd make sure are done to get the most $$$$. Doesn't make sense to me.

I am one of the above that looked at the car.

Mileage is correct as I did a Cartell check. However, it's not in great nick.

*engine bay covered in oil and generally filthy
*battery looked tampered with
*thick black smoke from exhaust
*paintwork rough and peeling in places
*interior filthy
*needs 4 tyres
*spoiler hanging off
*needs a service

Also the owner drove it very hard without warming her up and didn't let her cool down.

Cheers oz for the heads up! Was going to check it out this week but think you saved me the bother.

If nothing pops up over the week it looks like im going the japan route.

I'll let you guys know how i get on.

No worries Taylor. I'm in the same boat as you. Let me know if you go the Jap route as I may have to do the same.

Yea i would prefer it to be manual.

What are the tiptronic legacys like?

Also, at what interval should the timing belt be changed? Every 40-50k?

Every 100k or 5 years. I would do full kit including all idlers and tensioners, can be gotten cheap online. Autos are 260bhp. Slightly smaller turbo compared to the manuals

I've found a 2004 Manual WR limited edition but they're looking for €8500 BEFORE SHIPPING! :shock2: :shock2:

Works out about €12000 on the road.

As for an STI, don't think there is one for sale on the planet. I'd say there's only about 1800-2400 of them throughout all the years. :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

There is plenty of tuned by sti for sale in Japan, I have seen a few, rare enough though and well over priced. There is one for sale on piston heads he is looking for 17k! Sti ones are only 2008 and branded as s402.

I'll sell you mine. :)

Ok So its down to these two:

http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/subaru/legacy+b4/12643865/
- Manual
- About 6400 on the road

http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/subaru/legacy+b4/12743520/
- Automatic
- Big spec
- About 8200 on the road

What do you guys think? Are the auto's that bad?
[/quote]

Has VRT gone down? it was 33% last time I checked

The auto has one advantage, it sends 60% of the torque to the rear.

You could always look at putting a 6 speed from a newage impreza in it down the line..

I was using the ROS calculator. 2004 GT Turbo Spec B worked out about 1300.

Looks like I'm taking the plunge with the automatic.

I need some help with the Vin number though.

The number i received is : BL5-030884.

I can work out the first 3 but the rest don't match up to any guides I've seen?
