Theoretical 450bhp build

B4 soon

Petrolheads
I got a notion today about building a classic impreza with reasonably big power but also reliability. If it was to go ahead it would mean selling the B4 and starting with a 99/00 V6 type-r. Basically the idea would be to source the car with a blown engine-Im looking to see what the cost would be on the required parts. Bear in mind the car would be built for stupid acceleration-not top end. anyones opinion and prices/specs welcome-here's my ideas so far.

99/00 V6 type-r,with blown engine.

Closed deck block.

Forged pistons.

Steel rods and bolts.

Heads to suit???

RA gearbox and diff.

Bigger turbo(possibly TD05)

FMIC

Appropriate engine management and mapping.

As I said-this is just an idea at the moment-it may or may not go ahead, but Id love to hear what evereyone thinks would be required and what specific parts they would use. Thanks all

if you want stupid acceleration a Type R is a good place to start that is for sure!

its expensive i am in the middle of goin for 400bhp on a type r. with a budget of 4 grand on parts alone as i will be doin all the work myself.and its a tight budget at that

Theres a few threads over on scoobynet about this.

To have a reliable 450bhp with appropriate gearbox etc, basically everything that would be needed you're talking minimum £12k sterling. God only knows how much it would cost here :dontknow:
This is a price for using new, top quality parts, I'm sure you could knock plenty of £'s off with second hand parts etc.

These are the replies im after-I assume Brian you mean that even an RA box would not stand up to the power with standard internals

big power = big money sean. Gear box won't be up to 450break standard for sure. On another note, there's a gt30 turbo for sale on here aint there?

Damo(streetperformance) had a 420 hp build in his classic..apart from Kenc i think that's the closest..sure Damo can point you in the right direction..I'm not quite sure the Spec on micks type r but its around 400...STI tuning(davelegacy) built that for him speak to dave.

TD05 wont get anyway near 450bhp you be looking at a hybrid probably..I think a closed deck is needed for 450 but I could be wrong..dont know if the RA gearbox is up to that power either..you could be looking at another 3000 for a gearbox as well...I'm gonna guess and say including ECU, fitting mapping, it would cost you min 9k..without the gearbox

Reason for suggesting the TD05 is that id want to minimise lag-and having driven Brians car which runs one(at about 380 I think) it was very responsive. I think the most limiting factor would be the intercooler

actually four grand i kidding myself. its gonna be way more

you be lucky to get the block for that..even if you do...your gonna need an ecu and mapping 1200 min there..FMIC set you back 500....then gearbox about 3k...and as far as doing the work yourself I'm not questioning your skills but if it goes pear shaped your bollox'd..at least with a tunner you have come back if you have a failure

cosworth baffled plate, cp pistons , manley rods, acl bearings, RCM oil pump, fmic, simtek ecu , de cat and 3 inch system, 20g turbo, all new belts idlers, gaskets & sump etc, Brembos front and rear, Fuel lab reg,550cc injectors, Walbro pump. Im sure there more and budget aint far from up. This without paying anybody for engineering or mapping.and i still want parallel rails and more. PLus paying andy forest to map

the TD05 wont do 450..with a 2 litre engine and that kind of power lag is unavoidable

i think a td05 20g would be maxed out around 420 or 430, not full sure on these figures just remember being told when i was doing my build.

i looking for a nice bit of torque with 380 to 400 max

It would be nice to have a buil with some head room-so that nothing is straining to produce the power-what turbo would get over 400 easily?

lateral performance does somenice md turbos but once again they aint cheap. But thats what ya gotta pay for quality

SP40
The SP40 is a hybrid featuring a Garrett compressor wheel, and to
maintain proper boost control the SP40 utilizes a custom ported housing.
Full boost is available from 3100 rpm on a 2.5. This unit is laggier on a 2.0 but is a sure way to get over 400bhp.

from street performance

im runing std type r gearboxs in time attack on the last round car puting out 450 bhp no probs yet it only put in but see how it go
