Theoretical 450bhp build

lateral performance does somenice md turbos but once again they aint cheap. But thats what ya gotta pay for quality

MD turbo would be the way forward alright, most big power lads on scoobynet are using them now. Huge power but not laggy as you would expect.

Like Brian said you could get away with 450bhp on standard gearbox but likliehood is that a couple of months down the road it will sh1t itself, you're talking ppg gearbox for reliability.

well sean mite be no harm looking out for completed one in england or ireland that maybe needs just a few small bits but ave a lot of the work done like the exspensive bits...
as we all know you could spend 20grand on a cars but you not gonna get back wat we spend when you selln so you mite be better off looking for 1 with a serious amount of work done but feck all driving done.... the cousin spent up on 35g on engine and bits but the car worth feck all more than a standard to sell and id say it only has a 1000miles done since build... mite be no harm to keep an eye out...

It would be nice to have a buil with some head room-so that nothing is straining to produce the power-what turbo would get over 400 easily?
hks gt 2835 my car made 420bhp and 435flbt with this turbo on coutures dyno at the last r/r day EEC do fully built 2.5 blocks which are good for the 450 mark safe i tink they are 2500 pound

there power figures on there turbos are based on the higher octane feul they use in the uk id say there would be a fair difference on our sh1t

Even if you were to spend big and upgrade everything i dont think you could really ever call it a reliable 400-450bhp..at the end of the day any modded car running that kind of power theres always going to be a chance of it going wrong..my advice would be to make sure you have cash if things do go wrong..you always see lads who go out on a limb and then they dont have any funds to maintain or fix any serious problems.

If I were doing a type r, I would defo go for high rev setup with as much power spred out across the rev range as possible!
For that I'd probibly stick with the 2 litre, strokered motors don't rev as easy also you'd probibly just get away with forged pistons and metal head gaskets! and a hybrid twin scroll like mick spec c's S204
With a very gearbox freindly and useable 380-390 bhp and loads of torque from way down the rev range, it would suit the type r's gear ratios very nicely!
So pretty much exactly the same as mick spec c's S204 engine turbo combo, So PM him and ask ball park figures!
Have fun!
My car 2.5 with GT30 is a torque monster and that suits it's size and long gears, But I don't know if it would suit the lighter and shorter geared type r!

First of all, you may plan around 3k+ to sort out gear box, either 6spd or ppg, may allow another 600 minimum for clutch and that be 6spd, it might stick the power other than that 1k or over. crower, pauter rods are about 600 to 700 dollars, add shipping and customs, same for cp pistons,
then your engine, i dont think a 450bhp 2ltr is option, think 2.5 would be your best option, a standard 2.5 engine with cp pistons, crower, pauter, cosworth rods and right turbo should be reasonably safe, keep rev limit under 7k.. You are jumping into the money pit once you want 400 and over,
if i was to do it all again.. bullet proof 2ltr closed deck, rods and pistons, and what ever turbo get you as close as possible to 400bhp without lag, and chance keeping your standard drivetrain, think a built 2ltr closed deck would be around 2500 sterling with not my choice of internals but prob be good enough... but dont matter how much you spend or how well its built, disaster can still happen

Two of my requirements would be low down torque-and over the 400 mark in lb/ft. otherwise i wouldnt do it. I had an Evo 6 once for a year or so and didnt really like the power delivery compared to subaru-its spread out over the rev range-I like big balls of power and changing gear under 6000.

I think it is hard to get a 400+ bhp or torque subaru that retains its original factory low down snap your neck off kick, the more you go the later the bang and more like an evo delivery, kinda like looking for the fine bird that doesnt nag :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

What you really need to do is drive a couple of type r/ra's see how fast you have to change gears!
If you change to a 6 speed then a 2.5 with rods and pistons on standard bearings with a good sized GT30 (Md321t) would be would run 430bhp/460lbft on an sti8 topmount for good responce! she'll not do much below 2,600rpm alright between 2,600 and 3,200 and ballistic thereafter and similar response and lag to a 2 litre/standard turbo setup!
Sure stick with the type r's standard box for the time being, and she how she goes!

agree with dan . I am sticking with my type r box and a 2.0 with a mountain of torque and low down grunt . Pushing around 380bhp would be a lovely car and wouldn break the bank too much. Thats what i am hoping to have on a tidy budget

It goes to show you but..for 2k sterling you can buy that they can be blown up to 800hp safely on standard internals on shitty juice...sparks last 100k miles..supercharged versions have been tested with zero compression loss with150k miles!!..unbelievable value for money..oils changes every 30k miles..bit heavier alright but not massively..plus you have the v8 roar

plenty of power for a 1300kg road car with a short box..not a lot of cars this side of 911 turbos would be hunting you down

Dagnut.... You not planing on going around any bends or taking corners in near future
I had 5.8 Camaro before, same engine as the 5.8 corvete, lovely unuaual car, didnt like the whole LHD thing, and it didnt like the whole going around corner thing
Not made with handling in mind

I wouldn't change my type-Rs gearbox to anything else! It's just perfect.
And it should be grand with up to 400BHP methinkso

The best thing about type-Rs is you don't have to rev it high to accelerate like a dream.

wasn't planning on taking corners with an engine no...probably best to install in a chassis first..don't think that was an LS you had but was it? what year was your camaro?
just making a comparison for interest engine wise not praising american cars just their robust engines
