Theoretical 450bhp build

Recession will play a part. I am building a 380 to 400bhp 98 type r v4. And i hope to have it done for 12grand. That includes buying the car!!

lar, what are you changing on the car, is the engine rebuilt or original one

cosworth baffled plate, cp pistons , manley rods, acl bearings, RCM oil pump, fmic, simtek ecu , de cat and 3 inch system, 20g turbo, all new belts idlers, gaskets & sump etc, Brembos front and rear, Fuel lab reg,550cc injectors, Walbro pump. Im sure there more and budget aint far from up. This without paying anybody for engineering or mapping.and i still want parallel rails and more. PLus paying andy forest to map

Original engine in the car. 98 v4 sti standard. Only mod is coilovers

thats defo the best route to go down for budget 400 car

buy something like that and bolt on a big turbo

I spent about as much as any of those cars from pistonheds on my recent engine/turbo build!
It makes a lot of sence to buy a ready built car!
I defo would have done that, except I like doing things different by basing it on the Forester! :cuckoo: I know!

Ok-can someone fill in the blanks here so price wise?

V6 type-r with engine damage 3.5kapprox

Short motor with forged internals 2.6k

Turbo to make 380-400bhp and similar torque £??????

Fmic £??????

Mapping £??????

Clutch £??????

ECU(if required) £??????

Exhaust £??????

Feel free to add what you think is needed.

I hope scoobysteve09 doesnt mind me putting this up if he is the same member on scoobyireland, this is the spec of the p1

2.5 block wiseco pistons,eagle rods,acl bearings,arp head studs,cosmetic gaskets,
Gt30 standard location turbo
Hks front mount intercooler
Hks racing suction kit,
Hks dump valve,
Hks clutch
Lateral 272 cams,
Lateral manifold and up-pipe,
Apexi gt spec exhaust with hks downpipe.
740cc injectors,
Hks evc6 boost controller,
Fuel pressure reg,
Walbro fuel pump,
Hydra ecu with anti-lag and launch control

If your going to stay under 400bhp you should get away with sti gearbox, Over 400bhp on them and your on borrowed time IMO. I would not bother with a boost controler just get a decent ECU and I also would not bother with the cams in the above list, no need for them. HKS clutch can be quite harsh aswell. And if you go 2.5 defo dont use the Wiseco drop ins.

Id also look at the pistons you use and spend a little extra on them and go for a low silicone one if going up over 400bhp, some of the lower spec builds use high silicone ones which are fine in certain circumstances but worth considering depending what you intend to do with the car.

If I get time over the next week ill put up a few links and places to get some of the stuff that might save you a small fortune. Better to spend more in certain places and save a few quid in others that arent as important.

V6 type-r with engine damage 3.5kapprox,imo you wont get one for under 5 grand,v6 type r are one of the most sought after classic

Short motor with forged internals 2.6k ....3k from sti tuning unfitted

Turbo to make 380-400bhp and similar torque £?????? 1500-2000

Fmic £??????500

Mapping £??????1500 depending on car

Clutch £??????500

ECU(come with map)

Exhaust £?????? 500

Feel free to add what you think is needed.

bov for front mount 100-300

turbo intake pipe 100-300

injectors 300

headers 500

airfilter 100-200

brakes to deal with 400 horse power 1000

fitting 1000-2000

which is about 17-18 grand

Maybe this time last year youd pay over 5k for a V6 but no way would I give it now-no car with a blown engine thats ten years old will make anything like that now. Also can get brembos for maybe 600. Short motor unfitted easily got for 2.6k. Clutch more like 350.

If I were doing it again, I would have gone for a twin plate clutch, as my Exedy organic is abit on the heavy side! so pricey enough!
Is that 2.6K sterling?? for the short block?
Also Brembos ,new god pads, braided lnes and new fuid and you' be doing well for €1000 I would have though! Defo the best option for the type r!
Dan

I was thinking of Brembos before, and a guy that i would have thought knows his stuff said that theres fok all ifference in them than normal clasiic 4pots, more for looks.
I would think 5 to 6k is cheapest for a blown engine v6..
i might sell you mine, 08 6spd with dccd and all just fitted, new exedy 6spd clutch, unfortunetly with only about 100 miles put on it, needs new block. 14keuro, buy your forged 2ltr for 2500, ive everthing in place, rails injectors, fmic, simtec ecu with launch cont, anti lag, sp40 turbo that is a 430bhp 430 ftlbs on 2.5, so should be very close to 400bhp if not on it and isnt bad for lag

@Dan-have a look in ali burrows section-freshly built closed deck short blocks for 2450stg-only about 6k euro at the moment
