Thinking about a Forester?

Right lads, maybe I'm having a senior moment here or a bit of a rush of blood to the head but I am considering buying a forester to use as a winter car (and just use the impreza during the summer). As some of you know, I was searching for a diesel E39 and found an extremely clean example which hasn't worked out so long story short, I was sitting in the nct centre tonight with plenty of time to ponder life as those assbags were 40mins behind schedule and I started thinking, I'm getting the train for the next 6 months at least in work so mileage will be minimal so why do I need a diesel now, with winter coming in fast, I could use the awd and the boot space would be a plus.

Maintenance wise, are they any different to the impreza? How do they drive in general being more jeepish than car? What are the good/bad points? Would people recommend them or not?

I love mine 05 xt big sun roof . heated seats, cruise control, drives like a car but a bit higher for the rough stuff i tow with it have three dogs had a nissan 350 so am paying same tax for the two subarus.

there cheap now Robbie
but if i was spending a few quid on a second car I think it would be a little hot hatch for the fun factor
civic type r etc. (another car that will hold its money )
do you need the space is that your reasoning or is it just for yourself to tip in and out of work ?

I've a good Accord here with your name on it

He needs a daily family car Colm so little hot hatch isn't really an option

I got a 04 forester XT myself two months ago for very cheap money. Full leather,AWP and a huge sunroof. All it needed was a timing belt and gearbox oils done. Plenty of power when needed and not too bad on the motion lotion. Averaging about 30mpg

he should buy the accord so
small money and reliable
leaving money for the other car

I'd love a XT Foz for her but the missus dosent like em bleeding women

Told her shed like em when she gets stuck in the snow [emoji4]

Ciaran WRX

Had a 05 XT before the STi.

Great weapon....loads of space, good wee bit of poke.

Had a strange issue with her in that she kept dipping in power.....felt like I was driving a rocking horse....turned out to be a lamda sensor

Thanks lads, I was considering 03-06 range as there seems to be plenty of value in them. Not thinking about anything highly modified, just something nice looking to plod around in when necessary.

I need something for the family so small cars/coupe's, etc., are out the window, I had considered something like an E90 coupe but you could barely fit a bag of spuds in a 3 series boot :icon_rolleyes:

The plan right now is to drive this for a few months while the roads are salted during winter and then bring the spec c home and just drive it for the summer months. Something with a bit of poke that would do 30 to the gallon would be ideal, but in real world terms, would the fozzies genuinely do 30mpg?

There great have two at the min
Ye you would get 30ish on long journeys or low 20s in city while driving hard enough, plenty of room reliable if well maintained as any car.
Power is good surprises a lot of people that think its a jeep, handles good. 50-60 euro gets me 250-300 km in city, 350-400 km mixed so its like most cars not to bad.

Also go for 04 up as they have avcs and 03 and some 04 don't

plenty of space , awd and bit of poke on the road , seems like a logical choice , tax is the only downside i guess

Most of them are 2.5 auto was in one in the states heated leather so nice to drive and very cheap
