ECU Tweaking?

Hey,

So since I have joined the club and so on, I am wondering if there is any gain of tweaking ECU without any mods?

So I got 2.0l non-turbo impreza from 2007, my guess is, that its got EJ201 engine, but not sure(will check today evening when I get home). I know that some car manufacturers set the ECU that there is some small amount it can go further without any other modifications. So, my question is, would this car be in same category, or the one made by manufacturer is already top for the setup?

Also what kind of tweaks can I do on such car, that will not be pricy(relatively) and will allow me to gain little boost.

I know that some ppl told me that getting 2.0 is not the right way if I want to 'mod' it, and it can get very expensive, generally more than getting stronger car... Well, lets say I am not thinking getting 500hp out of that car... it should be 160hp at this moment, and lets say, getting to 180-200hp would be satisfaction for me:)

Its more of a 'knowing what I can do' than 'I want to have a beast'.

Thanks

Take it from someone who done alot of research on tuning 2.0 n/a impreza ,

you need forced induction , either turbo or supercharger to get any power increase worth talking about,

you can do airfilter/induction , exhaust headers and exhaust system and cams , but wont see any noticeable gains ,

as i found it was easier to make the sport look the part while building up the no claims bonus for an sti ,

then there is the cost of supercharging etc , cost less to trade my old sport against an sti than it would have for supercharging it ,

supercharger , exhaust , cams, induction and piggy back ecu was around 6k plus fitting and mapping , basically a money pit man

So, with the 2.0 version, its OK, and actually the only option, going ricer way - mod the design/look of it, and forget about more than 160hp?

How much would we be looking in intake+exhaust+ECU tweak, while we aint talking purely about HP gain, but also about better look/sound(that stock exhaust there sounds great, but doesnt look good)

I'm sorry to put it bluntly there is no point spending money on it , it will cost thousands to get it to 180-200hp . Buy a turbo version if more power is needed

you couldn't get better advice than what tommy posted above but if your looking to waste your money and have nothing to show for it just give it to me instead :icon_biggrin:

just to show it aint a ricer as you put it ,

18x8 alloys

40mm drop

wrx wing

sti bonnet and scoop

and about 4 splitters , one for every year i owned it , have the sti 3 years and done 3 on that .

and if you can drive her properly they will hang on to a wrx rear bumper handy enough , or was that just me ?

Do you have more pics Tommy?

Also, how do I find what version of engine I have? I cannot find it in the owner's manual nor on any of the papers I got with the car

Yea tommy mabay not fair play last looks the dogs b#@@$x in red nothing "ricer" bout that

So whats the definition of ricer? :D I always though those are the ones with overdone visual upgrade with no performance upgrades?

Very nice car... if mine could look like that I would be happy... this is exactly what I would like it to look, decent, not to overdo it...

The front bumper is original? Whats the black lining there? can I add that to the standard bumper, or is whole bumber required? You mentioned that your rear bumper is from WRX, right? how different is that from the stock?

edit: Yes, I am a noob, this is my second car, and my corsa was not worthy any visual/performance upgrades, others than getting shiny new smelly air freshener:D

standard bumper on it front with Splitter , that one was a genuine subaru item @500+ quid a piece , can get a different one from 100 sterling from ht autos in the uk , rear spoiler is is wrx type item , back bumper is standard ( same as wrx though) bonnet and scoop are genuine sti aluminium type as the standard bonnet will not support a scoop if cut out ,
