i hate to disagree with you here as you are not a responsible dog owner, yes you may look after you dog and bring it here there and everywere and love your dog very much but letting your dog go off playing with other dogs and not knowing what they get up to is very irresponsible which you say in your first post, your neighbor is very irresponible aswell and has paid for this, dearly.

I love dogs too, but if it killed his stock proper order to shoot it. I know a lad who shot his own boxer and rothweiller who had attacked a calf he owned and ate his ears off. Mick shot the dogs as he was afraid they could do it too his young nephews next door. They had never done anything before this but he said that hey now couldn't be trusted.
I'd steer clear of him Kevin

sorry to go off topic but that sickens my sh*t, are they no fuckin vets living around that could put the dogs down humanely instead of shooting them.

I dont have a problem with if the dog is a danger to livestock and in "hunting" mode but to bring a dog out and shoot them in a field tied to a tree or stake is fucking barbaric.

just read this now, very interesting as there wasn't as big a townie country divide as one may expect on a topic such as this. anyway seems to me that the farmer had an expensive problem which needed to be sorted promptly and effectively. had he followed the nicely nicely approach and went round chatting the local dog owners he would have listened to a lot of 'it wasn't my dog etc etc' with the result there is a good chance it would happen again. however by taking the action he did gained maximum publicity among local dog owners not to mention among isdc forum readers which means theres a good chance no more sheep will be killed on his property. its obvious that this fella feels entitled to graze his sheep on land he prob gave 7-10 grand an acre for without fear of dogs trespassing. anyway imo he has sent out a message and if that wasn't clear read the sign, if another dog gets shot on his land it would have to be the fault of the dog owner.
