garda speed cameras

Done a bit of reading up on the link at the start of this thread and it says the unmarked vans are only for survey purposes.
The ones that have stickers on them are the ones that will be doing you for speeding so watchout....

If there are unmarked survey camera vans knocking around

They will soon turn into speed limit enforcement vans if they deem it necessary and viable
The survey vans are looking for people speeding to justify more places being targeted as hazard / black spots

saw red ford transit today just outside johnstown in kilkenny..... no stickers just plain red van....

there was a plain blue one there all week

They mix it up with all the plan vans so you will just slow down and give up putting the big foot down.

But its a good thing if it saves on the number of deaths

Following the Freedom of Information act you can now get access to ALL speed camera offences registered in the last 12 months.

Every time your car goes past a speed camera, even 1mph over the set limit, it is registered and put on a database.

You only get a ticket if you are way over the limit or, (this is the bit that I didn't know) if you receive over 10 near misses, you will be classed as a serial offender and get a ticket the next time you go just over the limit.

This is why you hear of people being done for 34mph in a 30mph limit area, whilst others doing 39 do not.

You can check what has been registered against your vehicle at the following web address: www.i-database.co.uk <http://www.i-database.co.uk>

Just enter your car registration.

If there are any data on your vehicle you can click on the camera window to see a copy of the photograph.

Hope this information helps. Please share this information with those in your area without e-mail.

Haven't seen any in Cork yet :ponder2:

I know that was 4 months ago so you might have seen loads since...but I've hardly seen any around Cork either. I've only passed 2 so far. That's with doing a regular journey 5 days a week and a good bit of driving around the city at weekends.

Not that I'm complaining like...

is that not a UK website? Appears to give you random speeds in random area. either it doesnt work with irish cars or is a bullshit site

You're supposed to click the button "show picture" once it tells you that you've been caught speeding

ah i seee says the blind man . entered a few regs to which all were speeding . wasnt too worried as thought it a fake site !!

but cheers for confirming brian , !!!

does anyone know how accurate the speedo in the car is??

when i'm doing about 57kph, according to the speedo, the sat nav tells me i'm doing 50kph.........110kph on the speedo only comes up as 100kph on sat nav as well.

ive noticed that aswell , speedo and sat nav are tellin me two different speeds !! by a noticable amount . :ponder2: :dontknow:

if you have differnet size tyres or rims on the car from standard that will affect the reading on the speedo from actual speed

Speedo's also always read high as they are designed that way by all manufacturers, also combine this with wear on your tires and it will be reading higher than normal.

had a feeling the sat nav would be more accurate

got new tyres last night, replaced the 205/50/16 with 205/55/16 so should be interesting to see if the deeper thread and slightly bigger tyre will make a difference.

anybody know why there is a discrepancy in the figures
when doing 50 it reads 57
when doing 110 it says 100 on satnav

should it not be
57 - 50
114 - 100

rather than
57 - 5-
110 - 100

if the speed is reading the wrong figure the clocks must still be calibrated corectly and the amount that it is out should be consistent
:ponder2:
