help needed on buying first subaru

Sunday Drivers
hi all,

i might be buying my first turbo car let alone subaru and need some quick advice

firstly heres the link to the car im interested in: http://www.japcars.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201014197519218

went to look at it today and i absolutely loved it, but ive a few hesitations.

1.firstly the lad said it was a grade 4 import yet there was a big crack in the back bumper and few blemishes here and there, when i asked if he had the paperwork he said no so i really doubt it was a grade 4.

2 secondly yer man said its only in the country a few weeks yet i think i may possibly have seen it advertised for a few quid more a good while back, the same car from same dealer.

3 i just didnt get a good vibe off yer man, the car was stunning and a rocket ship but he was putting me off with his shite talk and i didnt believe much of what he said.

I bargained him down to 10,000 but think i can get a few more quid off, can someone tell me preferably legacy owners what they think the car is worth??

aI am considering paying a mechanic i know a hundred quid to look it over for me before i make any decisions, what problems in legacys are common and what should i tell him to look out for and check??.

I really loved the car and want it but that dude salesman really put me off a bit, im getting me uncle whos a garda to check out the reg number n all and make sure everytins as he said. oh and the car was nct'd to 04/11 from what i remember how is that possible if the car is apparently not long in the country, nct is for 2 years or am i mistaken?

cheers lads any help yaz can give is much appreciated :xmas_cheers:

there ya have it in a nut shell
if its white he will swear its black!!!
wouldnt listen to a word comin out of his gob!!!
that and half the cars that come out of there need fixed soon after!!!! (was burnt myself)

As above. Better to have a look at the for sale section here. Also, is it specifically a legacy you want?

Also, you mention a good few times how you loved this car. Keep a straight head and dont let emotions make your decision. There are plenty of good cars out there. Shop and purchase wisely is what Im saying.

colm is the chaps name. Walk away mate. My bosses cousin is one of the owners and his motto is theres a front bumper to back bumper warranty. As soon as the back bumper goes out the gate, so does the warranty. I had to go in whith a wheel brace to get a 100 euro deposit i had stupidly left when i was looking for a leggy at the end of last year. Im blessed i didnt buy it, and thankfull that i walked away. Dont let your heart rule your head. It looks mint in the pic, but it never adds up. Even 1 doubt is too much, and you have a lot more than that. Is there not a black 03 legacy for sale somewhere on the site with loadsa sti bits?

wouldnt go near japcars id say he buys them crashed and does them up on the cheap plus he lies about prices of cars. have alook on hear or on carzone.ie

is there any 04+ b4s onhere for sale at the mo? i looking but cant find anything newer than 03

I got my car out of there and (touch wood) i seem to be one of the lucky ones only had two probs power steering pump going and rad splitting 3 and 6 months after i got it but i would def follow the advice of the lads on here :subaru:
NCT is possible though as its 2 years from the cars anniversary date from when it was first registered ie registered 22/05/01 and does the NCT on 22/04/10 it will still expire on 22/05/11

well ive read nothing but bad about the place but they only have the one affordable legacy to me that i like and its an 05 available at the mo, i just sold my previous car and need to buy something now before i piss it up the wall. I couldnt imagine every single car in the place being dodge. There were some newish beemers and an05 s2000 that looked very neat there. the legacy was not perfect and i could see that, it had a crack in the back bumper and a few scratches n blemishes here and there. it drove very well smooth through the gears and no noises or rattles. The only thing that bothered me is he thought i was a sucker, im by no means an expert on jap import grades and such but i know for sure it was not a grade 4, if he had of showed me the problems and said its a grade 3.5 or whatever(if it is even that) i wouldve felt much more comfortable. If its just cosmetic things here and there is it not worth a deal cause of its year?

do ya think its worth my while getting a mechanic to check it out, if its not been in an accident and is mechanically sound and the only thing wrong is a few cosmetic things then is it not worth getting it? or am i mad for even thinking about going back near the lad. I got the reg checked and there was an irish owner he never mentioned that and acted like it was a fresh import, i have the owners address and number i got through a certain source. i Rang earlier but he was not there im thinking about ringing again tommorow. Should i bite the bullet and give up or ring the lad and if that checks out get it thoroughly looked over by the mechanic? or just give up nice 1 lads

by the way just looked at the site and the car has now dissapeered, wonder if someone bought it or they just read some of this or sumtin

sorry for the multiple posts lads :comp26:

3 more here, but prices are way to high, i know the dealer with the two b4s on this site has has them ages cause i seen em for sale ages ago, you would think he would drop his prices by 6 or 7 grand and try n sell em. 17 or 18 grand for an 04 b4 is a joke

I could be shot for saying this but if you really like it then get your mechanic to check it out at least youll know then one way or another its funny you mentioned bout a previous owner i had the same thing he didnt mention it till the money and keys were swapped but it came into the country a year before it was already on laois plates which i was glad about but i was flicking through an old auto trader i had from a year before when i got the car i had before and it was in there at another dealers but at €5000 more than i paid for it
