Impreza Vrs Evo...! Something up there!

The clocks are not accurate as they aren't designed to run past 180..I was on a private road running against a V8 Holden...my clocks wher just about around @ 0 which if you graded it the same as the rest of the clock should of had me @ around 270kmh i was just moving past him and he said his clocks where reading 250 ....his clocks are properly graded for 280kmh

So you hit over 150 mph in yours :ponder2:

easily solved you drive his evo he drives your scooby and if you beat him in the evo then hes a bogie pilot

I have a b4(top speed for a b4 is 161mph).

Don't laugh, but I think the top speed of a unlimited B4 is 177mph

and the limited ones are not the same as the impreza, on lad was 135 with his rsk and i was 118. :ponder2:

i had a race on a privite road when i got the car, my type r was standard and his evo4 was 350 so he said.
up and down twice from a standing start, left him along way off.
and a friends evo5 ment to be 350 aswell, on the nite i got my car.

my bro just got an evo4 with an mr engine and is on the way down....il let you know the result later
on my own land that is.

standard b4 no way..I've been there.. mines at least 25bhp over standard and much lower..160 is a push...takes 350bhp plus to get to those speeds.

Whats the risk or is there a risk to the car if you're hitting those speeds when their starts bouncing off the bonnet and over the scoop?? Not so much a problem in impreza's but could be for a B4 cause it has a much smaller scoop??

Subarus arent exactly the best aerodynamically-I once read that they hit 'an aerodynamic brick wall' at 145

The Torque and gearing is the difference really. My brother as a lot of you know has a 340 Bhp Evo 7 RS2 and My RA was well able to keep wih him standard but it did dye off as we got faster.

The biggest factors in the type r out accelarating the Evo are Weight and gearing!
The closest Evo model would be an EVO 4,5,6 RS, That would be a more even match!
But the Type r would still be lighter and have closer ratios and better aerodynamics!

The EVO is a mighty impressive machine, but she'll always suffer from the fact that she was never designed to be idealy suited to have a big engine and AWD!
Scoobies are designed from the base model on to have the low center of gravity boxer and AWD

Regarding top speed, if the speedo indicates 120kph at 4,000rpm then it is reasonable to assume that an indicated 8,000rpm (approx rev limit of EJ20) would indeed be 240kph (149mph)

Thats exactly what I said in my first post, weight and gearing....BUT the rev limit would not be 8000 in fifth beside you would never reach that..they make peak power @ around 7000? so even if you got there in fifth it would be tappering off...Type r's are awesomely quick cars no doubt, but their not geared for high speed

Agree peek power is maybe 7000rpm, but she is defo still making power at 8,000rpm!
Why do you recon the rev limit wouldn't be 8K in fifth??
I recon she'd do it!
Areodynamics are overrated, My forester has gone off the clock in fifth,(the clocks go to 240kph) and she's a big lump of a car, the type r would have an easier time I'd imagen!

your forester has longer gears..i bet your fforrester wasn't @ the red line

look @anyoff the dyno maps the power drops way off after 7000rpm..the faster you go the more power you need to over come the wind resistance..you dont make extra power you wont go faster

Version III (09/96 – 08/97) - GC8D

The engine was vastly updated and was given the name Boxer Master 4. It developed about 300PS but output was reported at the then-established gentlemen's agreement power limit of 280 PS (276 hp/206 kW). Torque peaked at 4000 rpm with a value of 35.0 kgf·m (343 N·m). Standard this version has a top speed of over 240 km. The car gained 10 more kilograms and weighed at 1250 kg (2756 lb). The STi shared the same face lift that the rest of the Impreza line received.

With Version III came the start of the coupe version of the WRX STi. It is called the WRX Type R STi. The coupe was chosen by Prodrive for use in the WRC because it was smaller, lighter and stiffer than the 4 door version. It was essentially a 2 door version of the WRX Type RA STi meaning it had DCCD, minimal sound insulation, close-gear ratios and hardened gearbox. This car also has a water-spray nozzle to dampen the top of the intercooler. The water will then evaporate, taking heat away from the intercooler and cooling the intake charge. This car was produced on an order-only basis.

Also there was WRX STI type RA (4 door) available in Version 3, they have the same motor, gearbox and R180 diff as the Version 3 WRX STI Type R, including DCCD, aluminium bonnet and front guards, no sound deadening and thinner glass. The ECU is also an exclusive tune. The Type R tends to be a bit stiffer and weighs 1190 kg (2624 lb). The DCCD has been known to bite new drivers in the wet. The RA gets a roof vent, instead of map lights, and wind up windows, although electrics are an option from factory.

Also available was a WRX Type R V-limited, in version 3. It has a WRX motor with no forged internals like the STI, and it misses out on the 4 pot front brakes as they are to be installed by rally teams. It has a roof vent and is lightweight, making a good base for a rally car.

Version 3 STI runs a VF23 IHI ball bearing turbocharger while the JDM non-STI gets a VF22

thats for an sti? the type r box is much shorter..the car takes 4000rpm to get to 120kmph..power tapers of @ 7000rpm it wont make 240..might be indicating 240 but it wont get there..an sti will get to 240 the type r won't

don't get childish about it..its only a debate..no point you quoting wikiedia figures for an sti when we're talking about a type r.

Back about 9 years ago when I had my first Impreza Turbo 2000, I had a race on a 4 mile straight (private estate) against an unmodified 1998 IMPREZA TYPE R. I had standard size wheels, it was also an Irish car that I was driving and it was heavily modified. I had my car off the clock showing an indicated 160 MPH (take into account speedo error, so probably 145mph) I was overtaken by the IMPREZA TYPE R at that speed. And it was not just crawling by me. Explain that.

That is my experience of Type R's.

If there are 4 or 5 different type of gearboxes in the different versions of type R that will only let them do 120-130 mph, then fine, they only do 120-130 mph. As far as I was aware it is only the Type RA that has a 120mph max speed due to gearing.

Can anyone who owns a Type R confirm this.

Cheers

Alan
