Impreza Vrs Evo...! Something up there!

what happens when the gearbox reaches its top speed? is it like hitting the limiter.
i havent gone round the clock cos i dont want to break the speedo, but when im up near it, the gearbox and diff are very loud,
is this normal?
and i have 18s on so that would make a difference on speedo aswell.

i had a site before my pc crashed, it had every car on it, with every stat on them.
but you could also modify if your gearing, weight, power and so on.
anyone have an idea what it is?

Just in case you missed it Dag.

The Type R was introduced in 1997 for the MY97 model and is a 2 door coupe and has some interesting features aimed at homoligation for rallying. It is this vehicle that Prodrive used for their Group N customer cars and also the donor vehicle for the WRC in 1997, 98, 99 and 2000. The two door body is reported to be stronger and stiffer than the 4 door and there is a solid rear bulk head adding to stiffness. Differences between the Type R and the 4 door STi models are:-

* 2 door bodyshell
* Short ratio gear box
* Adjustable electromechanical centre differential
* NO ABS
* Intercooler water spray
* Rear twin opposed piston brake caliper (other models get a single piston caliper)
* Rear tinted windows
* No electric aerial (Type R gets similar to UK spec. on drivers A pillar)
* No in car entertainment

The gear box ratios found on the Type R are shorter than those found on the standard STi (which themselves are lower than the UK model). These gear ratios have been changed over the years and the first Type R introduced in 1997 had ratios a lot shorter than the ones found on the MY2000 model. For the MY97 4th is 106mph at the 7900rpm red line, whilst 5th is 146mph (sounds high enough but 5th in the Type R is actually shorter than 4th in the UK/export model).

The Type R introduced in MY97 format, was the first STi model to get the high rear spoiler and colour coded side skirts. These were not introduced on the 4 door STi until MY98.

No I didnt miss it...I said top speed was 140 you said 157..that's says 146..still slower top end than an EVO which was the original argument..Ive been in a type r on the limiter @ 180 kmh and it wouldn't make 240

Fair enough so. These figures don't convince you either. I think you are a closet EVO lover just pretending to like Subarus. I will bow to your far superior knowledge :icon_grin:

Model Year CC/Cyl 0-60 BHP Lb ft/rpm Max mph

Impreza WRX STi Type R '96-'00 1994/4 4.4 280 260/4000 150
Impreza WRX STi Type UK '04-'05 1994/4 5.2 262 253/3500 152
Impreza WRX STi Vers I-II '94-'96 1994/4 4.6 250 228/5000 150
Impreza WRX STi Vers III-VI96-'00 1994/4 4.6 280 253/4000 150
Impreza WRX STi WR1 '04-'05 1994/4 5.3 316 310/4000 155

Its nothing to do with superior knowledge..there was a thread on here with type r owners saying how they wished they ahd a longer fifth gear..people swap out the fifth in type rs

Honestly Niall you own a type r would she hit 150 mph with the gearing it has?

There is no way Nialls Type R would hit anywhere near 150 with all the beer in the boot :icon_biggrin:

It's not a critisicm of the car..they are probably pound for pound one of the best performances cars you can buy...the just have a lower top speed but who does 140+ anyway?

Honestly Niall you own a type r would she hit 150 mph with the gearing it has?

Right lads i must admit i was sitting on the fence
on this one :whistle: :whistle:

Yes I do know the top speed of a TypeR :icon_grin: :icon_grin: , I know the top speed when she was standard,
top speed during mods , after mods and when i get her back from STI Tunning with a few more
bit's and pices all be it cosmetic I'll know the top speed then aswell .

All i will say is, one of ye is right.............. the other is wrong :multijump: :multijump:

BTW TypeR Rev's all the Way to 9000rpm ...............not that i recommend anyone try it :whistle: :whistle:

I would also like to point out, if you where to take your car up to the 146mph, that Suabru have suggested
and if your speedo is converted to mph (that's the 180mph white speed dials, very close together) it's absolutley fucking impossible to read the thing .................it actually wasn't until i fitted the Apexi Power FC with hand controller , that i got accurate readding's

If your looking for more info maybe members section or PM :whistle: :whistle:

Niall.

Sorry Dagnut what i meant is while skimming across the bumps,
potholes and all the other imperfections our Irish roads have to offer
and the fact i have a 10 yr old car it made readding the speedo difficult

The Apexi Power FC hand controller takes and records top speed , rev's , etc........
so when you come to a stop you then can check back over your performance.

Niall.
