Naughty Naughty

I'm essentially a data controller. CCTV on private premises is only to be used for security reasons. Not for misuse re: spying or over - monitoring.

You're spot on regard the audio. It's not allowed unless videoing in public.

Laws in UK could be different though. They have a massive public CCTV infrastructure.

Nothing underhanded about having a dash cam. Some people would ask questions if you were asked by a garage to remove it before they'll work on the car.

If it's wired to ignition like this case, it's only going to be on during a test drive. What's to stop a garage just unplugging it? Some work requires battery to be disconnected sure so it's not going to be recording anyway.

Fully agree with Dave re private work conversations. It's all well and good videoing outside in public, but why the need to record audio in cabin in terms of a dash cam? No need imo for sole purpose of covering your ass in the event of an accident that goes through insurance.

Overall SC handled terribly and the staff should know better. They had to sure. Do you know of anywhere that you'd bring your car that if they took it for a spin for the craic, their boss wouldn't give them an ear full?

I remember dropping my DC5 to Elite for a detail. I gave Ian and Johno permission to take it for a spin. Johno told me no not in work and not without the owner because Ian would sack him. He turns to Ian and he says "****in' right you'd be sacked. I don't care if it's miss daisy or a Ferrari, not allowed."

Also, 20 years in that unit and the lane is that bad? FFS. I know it's not that bad for the last 20 years, but it doesn't happen overnight. Get it fixed.

Jasus someone went to a lot of trouble to make that.
Have they always had a bad name before this ?
I always thought they were one of the top Subaru guys in the UK.
Reading on other Subaru sites they have a lot of negative feed back

half hour to knock that up if even
bang out order
scoobyclinic would be well entitled to sue that person
no better than the clown driving the scooby up the lane if you ask me :jack:

Just reading the comments on FB

SC are in total denial over the incident, and still think they were set up !!!

The owner is deluded

So on forums they're saying the owner is a weirdo and in Facebook they're denying it even happening?

Amazing how a simple incident has gotten so out of control .

its mostly their crazy refusal of taking any responsibility for it, that has caused it. If the garage said that upon seeing the video, driver was sucked from company for missbehavior, customer had his car checked for free, reviewed his suspension for damage that the little stunt could have caused and free oil changes for 6 months, then it would be sorted and nobody would blink an eye and the garage would actually rise in the eyes of customers.

Well... this approach? Is helping noone

I think shoud be moved to members section.

But yes agree with above.

Its different if was just vague situation and was blackmailed of putting in public domain for whatever incident.

But this case of a video and pretty obvious black and white.

Yes.

Deal with it.

Apologise.

Sort.

And offer solution all accept and move on.

I didn't see were it says it's illegal to have a dash cam when servicing, can you link it to me if you don't mind?

In this case, do you think this guy disrespected his mechanic??
Firstly im not a solicitor or anything like that. As far as I know it's not illegal to have your camera recording in your car, van etc. In Irish law it is most definitely illegal to record conversations without the permission of those you are recording. It goes against "data protection" and can be taken out of context blah blah blah.....

Ben played the sounds that were recorded on his camera and could be in trouble there, non of this is excluding the piss poor treatment that his car received whilst in SC's "care" or the equally piss poor response given by management.

The fact that this mechanic was with him for 15 years. ..... does this suggest that this carry on has being going on for this length of time and somebody has finally exposed this company....???

With the way things are gone now I would actually welcome a dash cam recording me on a test drive, that way I couldn't be blamed for something or damage I didn't do, go for a test drive in someone's car to test brakes and the big ends go... How good would it be to have a recording showing that you were not abusing the car at time of failure???... Which is the first thing the customer is going to think.. Same goes for a scratch or mark on car or wheels.

Regards privacy, it's only going to be recording really while driving so simply just don't talk about private stuff while your working.

If a garage refused to do work with a camera in my car... That would send alarm bells off with me and a lot of people I would think.

If you think of the disregard shown by the guys driving the car it's sickening, they could of easily cracked a rim or 2, imagine a rim breaking and that owner with his kids in car wiped out over it.. Sickening.

I wouldn't agree with regard audio on a dash cam. There's no need for it IMO. Plus, imagine the garage is close knit or family run. It's their workplace and they've every right to talk about anything from the weather to getting the leg over on the weekend.

Goes both ways. Someone who you've never dealt with coming out of the blue wanting a good bit of work done and they have a camera in the car. You'd be wary. I know I would.

Build up a good rapport and trust and there's no issue.
