Hey guys. New member. This is my first post, sowhats the craic lads?

Just registered to ask somebody with a bit of knowledge of the b4 what are the up and down sides of owning one

Firstly whats the tax on a b4 rsk anyway?
Should you only buy a 2001 onwards for the sake of the grill and remapping ability
Fuel economy is averag :ponder2:e 29 mpg or is :ponder2:dat not hitting the primary turbo at all mpg lol
Is it only the rsk that has the momo steering wheel? And what else would give it away as a genuine rsk??

Havent owned a Subaru previously, but after driving my friends 2006 type UK stI impreza 340 bhp I just want one, but iv also owned an audi a6 so got used yo comfort and wel the legacy iv heard
Is both comfy and the power of an impreza. And of course that beautiful soundtrack :subaru:
So what are they like to live with and is the 4wd any use n the snow?? For all year round im just asking because I life on very back roads and never cleared. Grass in the middle of my road :eek7::eek7:

Hey reillypadraig,

Welcome along

The legacy has more comfort and space , has the same Top end as an impreza ( higher than some versions )
but obviously takes longer to get there , not so noticable on the straights but once you hit the twisty's the impreza
has the clear advantage

For me all the new age Impreza are very comfortable :dontknow: and plenty of back roads where i live

Yes AWD is better in the snow .....................way more fun , if you want
but defo more grip , so where your RWD wont go up a hill , the scooby will ..............that said it dose have
it's limits and of course tyres will play a part here .

Get an IMPREZA ............

NIall.

Wud love an impreza but I think insurance is big high on it. Im 24 so should have no prob getting insured, but think the legacy is down as a luxury car in the insurance bracket. So wud be cheaper. Anyone here have one that could give me an idea of what there like. . Im an enthusiast not going to be rallying it. Always look after any yoke I have. Had a turbo s15 for 3 years and only went tru 2 sets of tyres hahahahaha, so any well minded b4s even for sale?

Depends on what you are comparing it with?

If it V an Impreza?

Pros

Cheap Insurance, More comfort, more conservative image.

Cons.

Not as quick, not as sharp handling, and probably most important not as easy to mod.

Gen iv legacy's are more difficult to modify power wise and not as good handling or suspension wise in standard from but CA. Be easy modified to suit hour needs. Some interchangeability between impress and legacy parts but not much. You can easily BolT on a spec c turbo setup to a legacy that will up power levels but internals are not able for much over 300 if u want to keep it reliable. I can bring u for a soon in my gen iv legacy if u like so u can see their potential. Mine has a few mods :)

I've a 02 legacy, rev d. Tax is 660 for year.
Comfy car. 30 mpg would be about what I'd average with a bit of welly now and again.
The car has never let me down and I'd recommend them highly.
I think there is a silver 03 legacy for sale here, looks very tasty, would be the first one I'd look at

30mpg? are you sure about that?

:ponder:
I'll work it out for definite later, 530km is the most I got out of a tank, from brimming it to nearly empty. Ive to fill it after work so I'll get the calculator out

Wel thanks very much. It's very much appreciated where bouts are ya from, im in meath, kells area. Like to get to know a car first before buying, but im a Subaru noob to be honest, iv changed a cv joint in a 1.6 impreza but thats my extent of Subaru mechanicals.
Wudnt be planning on modding it much at all, id be very wary of.messing with that 2 stage turbo system, if it works dont fix it,lol
Anyway 250 standard or 280 in the rsk is plenty for me.

I think ur right, most I heard of was 29 and at worst maybe 18 balls out but thats what iv read about them so far so dont quote me on that. I was expecting more for the tax with the emissions sh*t aswel

Welcome along

30mpg, jesus i wish, not sure the exact figure but i dont think its that high. I have a B4 now nearly a year, and i love it.
Comfy, solid, quick on first turbo, better on 2nd
Cons is petrol and tax!!!
Thats the only faults i have with it. I love it!!! Im considering selling soon as i want an impreza sti and need smaller daily. There has been some lovely b4's on here. Gorgeous silver one for sale, well its not for sale but see this thread and you'll get an idea of mine and the silver one, not sure of your budget. http://isdc.ie/discussion/index.php?topic=35536.0

Long story short, great car for comfort and some fun, I think everyone would agree, it seems to be a progression from legacy to impreza though!

280bhp as standard on B4's but thats on 99ron petrol from japan. Im new to the whole subaru thing so could be wrong with some bits. Anyway, the lads on the site are great and will point you in the right direction

I have seen 600km from a tank on one or two occasions. Big pro of a B4 is the interior compared to any impreza. Its a lovely place to sit.

600km? what size tank is in them? now that does sound promising, i love my comfort but at the same time love the power, the car has a mix of everything, okay so is not an insane man like the impreza is but its enough for me,

so whats the whole story with octane? and the chances of detonation if u dont use it at every fill up? never had to use octane in a car before, and if i do find one that has been remapped or the owner says it has(but it actually hasnt) could there be any issus with this?

Do you live near a maxol? If so their unleaded will be fine in any rev-d cars. Rev-D started in may 2001. These days it takes about €90 to fill a B4.

Your first big con was having a spin in an Impreza. B4 totally different car. B4 is slower and the twin turbo set up is horrible.

you could be right, i got up to 135 mph in that sti,

but are all legacys jap imports or is there any uk spec ones??

i think mostly jap imports. I could bring you for a spin in mine but since your leaning towards the older gen 3's there might be no point. only 1 gen iv turbo i see for sale and it looks a bit naff!

might still be no harm as i will have an idea of what to look for,

er....what has he/she thinking with that??? :cuckoo:
