pros and cons of buying a b4?

Thanks man i am sad to see her go   i have loved it but with no job i dont have the money to keep her. I will get one again for sure :subaru:. I had a lot of bother with coilpacks over the years but its easy to know if they are acting up the car stutters when one is miss fireing. I had some bad times with that car to i posted on here about a year ago about a guy who busted the engine on me sad times but thats life. Good luck with your search there is a lot of legacy for sale these days you will have your pick of them

yeah you are very right i was just talking about the problems i had i should of worded that better i think. i am right in saying that the rads have a week spot which can crack

yes top right corner but in fairness we see this at area 8-10 years old. so a rad replacement and go again. can happen any car.

B4's are brilliant, and a great way to start into subaru ownership at your age. I bought 1 at 22, had it for years and absolutely loved it. Moved onto an impreza last year and love that as well. I don't think its right to compare the 2 directly but the benefits for me at the time were:

- Cheap insurance
- Great power
- Great comfort
- Doesn't attract as much unwanted attention.
- Loads of space in the cabin and boot, plenty to take the mates/family and a fully loaded boot.

Cons were :
- Poor mpg (but to be fair, I drove the balls off it) but I did once drive to galway and back on a single tank
- solenoids giving some trouble and carbon build up causing problems with the changeover to the secondary stage.
- centre diff in the gearbox giving trouble.

Trying to remember but I think it was a rev A I had so a these problems weren't as common in the rev D. I would go for a rev D if I was you, better ecu, larger turbos and with the facelift, it still looks like quite a modern car

now that has me even more on edge to get one, still alot of irregularities on the fuel consumption end of the scale, now some very cheap ones on donedeal, not sure about them, or is it just that under 2001 models are just worth less than 2grand??

heres a beuty...bloody spotless

maybe the owner is on here?

No point worrying too much about fuel consumption, they aren't good on fuel, fast cars generally aren't!! That one in the link looks nice alright.

I'd be all over that 2002 at €3,500 if I was you. Rev D, few nice mods, a lot of the major service work done (look for proof), lovely colour. Seems like its almost too good to be true.

Thats just way it can be with Subarus.

Even well maintained cars can fail.

In fairness who says it was drivin the shite out of for the 3 days?

Well i am not saying the had the shite driving out of it but i had it well looked over before i sold it to him and the engine rebuild is only 8 months old i sure as hell did not drive the shite out of it i drove it up to dublin that day with out her missing a beat kept it around 130k for most of the trip. I loved that car and spent a clean fortune on it over the last year or so

anything could have happened.

may have been from detonation? who done rebuild? was it mapped? was oil pump and modine changed at rebuild?

it was paul wray from strabane. I am not sure about the pumps but i think he changed everything when he did the build. as for the mapping i dont think it was the last owner before me said it was mapped but i think he was pulling my leg i always used octane booster
