Rolling Road day at A.I Autosports new premises up north.

Think its all a bit of fun lads no use ranting and raving at each other.Nearly getting to the "my da's bigger than yours" stage.

got 309. when we were down in Waterford but run was finished early and was told proper reading would have been around 319.(followed contour of line) Filled up with e5 on the way up north (1st time) and got 329. Not really bothered about bhp but its quick enough for me.Big change from good old 1.6

Still recon she runs a bit better on v-power(wont cause any problems with car using this will i. Dont want a big technical debate now simple answers please.

Jeasus that was a long rant think i might have to go and lie down now

v-power is only 95 where e5 is 98.5 or something.

v power is 99 ron, quote from shell website

Shell V-Power is a high octane fuel (99 RON) designed to help maximize the performance of many modern engines with adaptive spark timing capacity.

Yeah 99 in england 95 here

On the ball wetpatch!
Yeah some lads seem to have a rough spot when they first started using E5 but at will clear!
And E5 is supposed to be 99.2ron and seems tobe compatible with octain boosters, but v-power is not compatible with boosters!
Dan

Well from looking at that site, v-power racing is made in the same way as e5 so maybe we might c other options other here in the not to distant future.

Dan I reckon thats a bit of a myth, everyone one in the UK runs V-Power with Octane booster without issue. It was suggested a couple years ago that the cleaning agent breaks down the booster, it wasent fact just an idea that was thrown out there that nearly became true because it kept getting repeated. I use Shell , Texaco and all the rest with booster and its fine. Plus like I say there are plenty people on V-Power and booster in UK.

My type r is mapped for 95

but i run it on E5 what do you think would be best for the it i just dont know :ponder: :ponder: :ponder:

if you have an ecutek licence i would get a teak for e5 you get a better torque curve and maybe a few horses

Martin Tracey was telling me that the E5 is great in the cars and if you have a garage close start using it, but to get the most from it get the map adjusted! Much better power readings!

@ renno:
Surely if there is even a chance that Irish v-power isn't compatable with booster then it might be worth avoiding just in case!
and UK v-power plus booster might work but it is a different fuel to what we have here!
@ paulv4:
If your car has already been mapped then a second tweek map won't be very expensive, So I'd have her mapped for E5, It would probibly be worth 20 odd bhp to you! :headbanger:

I think the cleaning thing is in the uk V-Power aswell no ? Ive never had an issue with it.

Damo i ran my TypeR on Texaco Techron and i strongly advise
no one to go near it ................now maybe there is some logical reason for this
but when we went to Martin Tracey's for the last RR day , i filed the car + booster collected John
met the Cork lads and hit the road.

It wasn't long before the car started , stuttering , stalling and running very hesitant,
now it only happened 5-6 times on the way up.

Rolled it and Martins and he cut the run short (road mapped etc........)

But after leaving Martins the car completly stalled ...........really thought i was fucked.
Got her going after 5 mins , and i swear it must have stalled, ran lumpy, juddered every 10 mins on the way
home.

Got as far as Mitchelstown re-filled and buy the time we hit the tunnell all sorted and never a prob since.

Now just incase anyone thinks i was smoking something funny i also had John as a passenger :dunno: :dunno:

Niall.

Lads i know it was cold on the day of the Rolling Road but
can anyone remember the temp ....????

The only reason i ask is i remember readding somewhere that for every
1 degree colder it gets you gain an extra 1 bhp aprox !!

Or at least i think that's what i read :ponder:

Anyone elese ever come across this before ??

Niall.

Damien I have to agree with Niall. My WRX was mapped for 95 plus half a bottle of NF by Andy Forrest and all was well until one day I filled her up with Shell V power and threw in a half bottle of NF. She ran like a dog for the next two days until I filled her up with Esso 95 and more NF and she was grand after that.

Obviously I have no scientific proof that the detergents washed out the NF but apart from being an octane booster it has an upper cylinder lubricant which allows more advance and therefore pushes out the limits before det starts. Layman's logic would dictate that the cause and effect ie V power and lumpy running must be down to the detergent in the V power affecting this upper cylinder lubricant.

Anyway I had the same experience as Niall and there were quite a few others with the same experience too so it was more than an isolated incident. It shouldn't be a cause for concern though as there is plenty of E5 around now and it looks like all the petrol companies will be introducing their own form of E5 here in the future.

The EU has not yet decided whether to lift its ban on E10 and it is trying to assess the long term effects of E10 on engines. Bio ethanol is very corrosive but Australia seems to be satisfied that the difference between E5 and E10 is not significant enough to ban it so maybe the EU will let Australia be the guinepig and if there are no long term issues give E10 the green light in Europe.

i ran v power and booster before i was mapped same thing i was convinced i got bad juice because no one was buying the v power ..like it was stale or something car ran horrible..i even went back to the garage guy told me that it was fresh and had paper work to prove it..coulf be just a bad batch but i never used it again

I would have thought that the power gain per degree is great than 1bhp per degree!
I don't notice nows but in any other turbo car I've had, I alwats noticed a maked power gain on a cold morning!
