Some info on E5 fuel.

Hey guys just a bit of info I got on e5.
Firstly I got some info from Johnny @A.I Autosport and he has mapped a few evo's from the south on e5 fuel. He said the first car he mapped with e5 fuel was similar to their 97 up north but since that every car he said it was no better than there 97 fuel.

Secondly from Simon norris who has built a 2.3 stoker engine with a gt42 turbo for a guy I know from Dublin with a evo7. He had it mapped for initially for 97 in the uk and the car made over nearly 900bhp he then sent a few drums of e5 over to norris to do his final map and Norris had to knock 4 degrees off it so it was down around 50bhp.

Just something to bear in mind lads wether it could be that this e5 isnt having consistantly same octane rates as the same guy asked maxol what octane it was and they sent him out results one saying 99.2 the other saying 97.5. So it must be that the booster is bringing it up abit but its defo not as good/ or consistant as what it should be.

surely it still alot better than normal 95ron stuff !!
So It's the best of a bad bunch!
Thanks for the info funnyclub!
Also is there any truth to petrol loosing octain rating the older it is??
.ie if you fill up on the day of a rolling road session would you get better results than if the petrol was in you tank for the last 2 weeks?????
Because my skyline hasn't been driven since last october and I'm wondering would the petrol would be stale?

I dont know mate.
But I dont think I will be using e5 anymore going to stick the normal 95 and maybe booster.
Its just not consistant enough and when running on a aftermarket ecu which doesnt pull timing like a standard ecu can I wont be taking a chance.

Yeah, If your ecu wont adjust for less octain then just play it save!

Hello Lads,

AFAIK the longer fuel sits in tanks etc, it tends to loose it octane rating :ponder:

With the calorific rating being different you will use more fuel than normal 95, but it should not be that noticeable

I know some people using E85 on dual fuel Ford Focus cars and they say they are very heavy on the E85. But an 85% mix is nowhere near the same as a 5% one

Cheers,

Michael

Thats all good mick but it doesnt change the fact the fuel isnt as good as it should be.

It also doesnt change the fact its better than anything else we have.

Not what I have been told. Only you use more of it.

Hello Paul,

Without getting a fuel lab-tested, there is really no way to tell its octane rating etc :dunno:

Different results on RR's etc, can never tell you a fuel's octane rating

Maybe some one should throw a few hundred euro @ having E5 tested to validate it RON rating :ponder:

Cheers,

Michael

So whats a better option for thoughs of us in the republic?

Mick its not rr figures these guys can see from mapping the cars wether the fuel is good or not depending on how much ignition they can get.
The fact is norris had to pull 4 degrees timing from a 97ron map.

Just 95 and booster I suppose.

I
but that would still only be 97 which is still less than what u said what e5 is
E5 should be 99.2 ron but its not consistent. What I said was norris had to pull 4 degrees timing from an evo engine running e5 which was previously mapped to 97octane there the e5 was not anyway near 97octance let alone 99.2 ron.

I agree with this big time, we mapped two cars for E5 WITHOUT any booster and Pat Herborn said there's no way its the same as the Tesco 99. Dagnuts car went well but another that was mapped for E5 only was marginally if even better then 95. He reckons he can get more timing out of tesco 99 every time. I had my car mapped a couple weeks ago for 95 plus booster and during the week I ran a tank of E5 without booster which should have been more then enough to cope but I was getting DET, switched back to 95 and booster and its clean. So cant be consistent 99.2, So your fooked if you do get mapped for a good batch of E5 and the next tankful isent. Im sticking with 95 and booster now.

I dint think it is any better then 95 to be honest, if it is its not by much.

This is interesting but also concerns me as if it is only as good as 95 and were mapped for 95 plus booster, when we run just E5 we could put our cars at risk :dunno:
