Some info on E5 fuel.

i think the problem is consistency....i was mapped for 95 and a FULL bottle of lucas when e5 first came out the car ran better on e5 alone ..but various fill ups now and again the car felt sluggish..to say its the same as 95 is wrong imo..i was mapped recently on e5 alone and no timing was taken out and made more boost than 95 plus full bottle of booster..i know the b4 runs higher compression and doesnt compare to the impreza..i wouldnt say its 99 but its deffo better than 95..depends where you buy it i reckon..i have noticed some garages have E5 on the pumps and some just have "now with 5% renewable bio-ethanol"..i know it amounts to the same thing but maybe maxol can answer a few queries for us...

Yeah true its more consistencey, but on my car the 95 and booster was better then E5 alone.

Yeah would be interested to know what the storey is.
My car was mapped for 95 and half a bottle of lucas but ive been running it on just E5 since oct/nov except the odd fill up.
Its running fine producing full boost, back fires a bit when slowing down using the gears after giving it some stick but thats all

Well iam mapped for 95+booster...and have been running E5 for the last while now, since it came out,and have no complaints,no signs of det....?? :dunno:

I have mine mapped for E5 + third bottle of NF and the car runs great, has done consistently since mapping a good few months ago, never felt like ive had a bad batch of petrol with god knows how many fill ups since mapping ..

defo not 99 octane, noticed that the car runs brilliant with the E5 and a third of a bottle of lucas,

have found det from the maxol garage in tallaght when it was opened and none from the crumlin one :ponder:

not consistant at all, used a half bottle and E5 go up to th RR ,very very low detination, maxing at 10-15 with some
welly being applied :D

Guys with standard ecu's wont really notice a difference as the standard ecu will pull timing.
But people with aftermarket ecu's thats where it may be an issue.
I am sure there is times when the e5 is fine but I wont be taking a chance I will be going back to 95 with booster.

My car is running well on 95 + booster so im happy to stick with that, If E5 isent consistant its to risky to use. And hearing that Simon Norris had to pull that kind of timing confirms the doubhts I had.

Exactly Damo having to pull 4 degrees from a 97octane map says it all really.

but you cant be sure as you have no way of testing the quailty of the fuel from the tank he got it from? could be the garage he got it from is still selling the old fuel and has it marked as e5? how would explain the fact i was mapped with 95 and a full bottle of lucas booster but made better figures with e5 on its own..it has to be better than 95..a lot of maxols on ireland still dont have it as there are 2 main depots and one is still selling off its old 95

The station he got it from he asked was it e5 and they said it deffo was they had it there for a while now and its a busy station.

Yeah they should all have it by now. Ive used Naas and Newbridge Maxol and other lads getting mapped have aswell and its in them ones a long time. It may be better then 95 but I think we can agree its not 99.2 ron.

I really don't think that 3 people and Ali G's mate Dave is a good enough conclusion to come out with stamements like above...

aimed here mainly @renno & @funnyclub

I doubt a company would make a statment about its fuel being of a certain octane rating if its not. Sure they would be wide open for claims if it was the cause of any engine breakdowns because of it

Lol, my mate dave yeah e sez that barry down the petrol station could ave dumped e5 on normal 95 hence the odd readins.

yeah but i know but yeah but my mate Shelley she knows it 99 cos she drank some right and it must be true cos she never lies

Dave before I give my views dont take it as a row, its only fuel and you dident invent E5 yourself so dont take offence and we can just discuss the fuel. Anyway Its not just any 3 people, its Simon Norris , Pat Herborn and AI Autosport. I would have said that it wasent a good enough conclusion to map one car for it with booster and say yes its great ?

Maybe it has only been bad batches of E5, only time will tell. Also Pat Herborn has alot of experience mapping our crappy 95 ron on its own , 95 ron and booster, e5 and booster , e5 on its own and maps cars in the UK for Tesco 99 and he doesent think E5 and Tesco 99 are the same. Again maybe they where all bad batches. Which means the consistancey is poor which rules it out for me really.

When you done your testing how many cars where done with E5 only and how did they react ? NF and Lucas will improve the fuel greatly.

If im getting my 109 ron map done ill see how much extra timing E5 plus booster will give me.

Not really, Andy F wondered if it was even 95 ron when he was mapping cars. So I wouldent count on 95 being 95 or 99.2 being 99.2.
