Some info on E5 fuel.

Pat did say the E5 was better in my car than 95 and booster???
I thought it made the same timing but a little more boost only without the booster. Could be wrong now. Which is good.

Your car made more timing and had less det then any other b4 so hard to judge. I do feal it must be better then 95 but on other cars it dident seem to be better at all. Now maybe its only that they cant get it consistant. Like I say my car was fine on 95 plus booster then I switched to E5 alone and Ive got DET. I would normally put it down to a bad batch of fuel.

Then Scooby KE who is mapped for 95 plus booster is running E5 alone without issue.

Either way going on what I know now I dont think its 99.2 ron or consistant.

heres spec sheet on tesco 99 ron...try and get one from Maxol.

if you do the maths and take 95% of 95 ron fuel, and 5% or ethanol at 116 ron

so we have ((95x95) + (116x5))/100 = 96.05 ron

so unless they are using other additives it cant be 99 ron just from a 5% blend of ethanol.

The only way it can be 99 is if they are using ethanol at 180 ron OR they are cheating and using 8% ethanol whihc would give 99...but I doubt it the only way they can be getting 99 is to use extra additives like toulene..

I really don't think that 3 people and Ali G's mate Dave is a good enough conclusion to come out with stamements like above...

aimed here mainly @renno & @funnyclub
Lol ya Dave its wasnt just 3 people that know nothing about mapping cars.
Its from 3 people that their job is to map cars. I think I would take their word in fairness.
Also as I said before maybe some batches of e5 are 99.2 but I dont think it is very consistant not really what you want if your running high power.

But then again what would I know your clearly the expert here.
By the way Dave do you map cars for a living?

Hello Lads,

To try to get to the bottom of this debate, I am going to get a sample of this fuel tested

I am going to engage Fin-oil (an oil supplier), who supplies ELF Oils among others.......

I will get him to test a local Maxol petrol beside where he works.....

I will post the results once I have them

Cheers,

Michael

he can test the MON rating in a lab but the only way to accurately test RON is with an engine dyno AFAIK

Hello Dagnut,

As Finoil is an Oil Supplier, I know that they do not have the test equipment required

He will send it off to a proper lab for testing

Cheers,

Michael
PS He has done extensive oil testing for the company where I work in the past, so I know he has access to such labs as required

Here is the info from Maxol.

says on that 97.4 RON..research octane number..so how are the claiming the average on their website to be 99.2? w@nkers

Probably the same way as in when ur on rr and u get to runs, 1 saying 300 and the second 295.

I was going to say it might be a waste of money testing it because Maxol tested it and somehow got 99.2 ron, but now going by what funny club posted its 97.4 ron. Have to get in touch with Maxol for them to explain which one it is. Either way judging on the results some companys are having its no where near as good as hoped for no matter what Maxol say it is.

And what if Micks tests come back saying its 99.2 ron?
I dont know :dunno:, the Maxol test seems to be 99.2 ron but its clearly not, It will depend on the test thats done and how its done.

The maxol test says 97.4

Yeah but there website and an email I have from them defo said 99.2 ron ?

That lab sheet put up by funny club was for a sample which was taken from a pump during the rollout of E5. Its very possible that there was 95ron ul still in the tank hence the low RON when it was tested. Then there is the possibility that E5 is only 97ron after all seeing as the min RON allowed for it is 97 according to that lab sheet

I'd say that those guys who have Maxol with E85 in their area can also try to put additional 5l of E85 to get a bit higher percentage of ethanol in their tank.
This is still reasonable, not too high amount of alcohol that can't harm car and should pull up RON of that mix a bit.

But anyway I sent a mail to Maxol to ask them about that difference. I'll let you know when I have answer.

Cheers
