Subaru Legacy B4 BL5 GT

Might aswell keep this alive.

I'm a noobert when it comes to wheels and there names.

Rota Force i think was the name of them.

Well I've got her in at last :icon_biggrin:

Battery is dead and main fuse blown (thanks to customs agent). Had it runnin for abit but battery needs a good charge and she needs a fill of juice as tank is empty.

After 2 months at sea it needs a good going over.

Already have a list of stuff to do before the week is out. Hopefully have a pic up soon.

Won't be goin anywhere until the VRT date next week anyhow :zzzz:

The auto 2004 GT WR Edition. Workin on gettin pics up just need to get a camera :hammerhead:

I have 13 different insurance company numbers in front of me, bet you not 1 will insure it! (24, Full Irish, 5 years NCB, no points, no offences). Need to sort out a quote i can jump on once the car through the VRT assessment.

Well finally got a few pics of her. (sorry lads, camera is broke and don't own a smart phone)

Arrived at the port May 19th after 2 months at sea. Dead battery and to make things even better, blown fuse. Made a make-shift tinfoil fuse and started her up after a charge. (HEY IT WORKED! :D)
Had to wait for a transporter as was empty of fuel, dusty as hell and zero insurance so wasn't riskin anything.)

Got it home safe and begin the debacle that is the VRT process. Took another 3 weeks for VRT to sort out figures for it as i had proof of lower C02 emissions. Over the course of visits tot he office, i managed to get insured by Aviva through QuoteDevil.ie. Nice lad there Damian went back and forth to get me the cover. Great lad! Wasn't too pricey either!

When i finally got it on the road (Mid June by now), i noticed some stuttering when idling in traffic and overall, it didn't feel right. Enter the timing belt/full service fiasco. Japs really do look after customers :icon_rolleyes:. I'd like to note the previous owner hasn't answered any mails from me since, so be weary of K Trading in Japan. Not that i mind too much as i expected to do some work on it.

What needs doing now:

New tyres - Have narrowed it down to Toyo Proxes C1S. Anyone experience of these? They seem the best bang for your buck in regards wear/noise/wet grip.
New Front Grill - The grill is pretty worn and needs a replacement or is it possible to refurbish them? All the chrome has torn off from...i don't know actually.
Mesh - For the lower grill in the front bumper. Nothing there at the moment.
Gauges - Thinking of adding Boost gauge and knock analyzer. Any recommendations? Necessary for an auto?

And finally - Pièce de résistance :D

You could refurb the grill by painting or wrapping if you want to do a bit of DIY. Easy enough done, the chrome flakes because its old and tired now (9 year old car), nothing more.

As P1 says, consider adding a map to that list

would you like to spend few hundred on a map or few thousand on a rebuild

jap imports are mapped for a higher ron rated petrol ie 102
were the best we get is 97/98 ron

nice.. that looks great....the newer Bl legacy would have a better ecu and would be better able to retard the timing to avoid denotation but you would be losing some power. Dan would be the man to speak to about mapping it but I don't think he made any major gains from it

If its the grille with the chrome middle section you can easily respray that or wrap it with some black or carbon vinyl. I got mine mapped about a week after i bought and serviced it, just to be on the safe side, i didnt get much more power out of it with when it was standard, but i think it was running very lean before it. Best to spend a few hundred and get it mapped, or if you have a few mods in mind get them on first and then a map. I didnt make much more power after remap but torque and responsiveness was improved throughout the rev range so power was more usuable, not sure about the auto's.

Boost gauge is good to have can help you monitor boost levels and make sure its making the boost it should, good for seeing when pipes pop off or split etc. No need for knock analayzer after map really, again just for peace of mind and you can see when to ease off if you get a bad batch of fuel etc, i have one in mine, but only since rebuild! Get it serviced and mapped and leave it at that, if your upping the power to over 300, stronger rods are needed, they are almost the same as wrx pistons so cant handle big power, and engine is pretty high compression at 9.5:1 so very sensitive to changes in boost, wouldn't go above 1.2-1.3 bar

enjoy it!

Cheers! :D

So wheres the best place to get a map done? Do it in groups?

Best place to get NF Octane boost in the meantime?

Cheers for all the feedback!
