Type-r Info

Octane Boostaholics
I'm looking for as much information on type r's as possible. As some of you may know, I'm now in the market for one  .. I've been a Legacy man for some time now and know a lot about them but not much about impreza's. I've always wanted a type-r and am now luckily in a position to get one  ... I want to know as much info as possible on different versions, differences between them, v-limited, wrc limited, standard, etc, etc.

I'm 99% sure I want a V5/6 model so what are the main difference between them? I know seats spoiler and front lip on the V6 are different, anything mechanical?

Would also like info on the V3/4 as if i find one with work done and a nice facelift to V5/6 then I would consider that too

Anything would be a great help, cheers lads

Best to ask more specific questions you may have Robbie and we will do out best to answer.

I'd let you drive mine but its back on stock ECU and exhaust for the NCT. With the decat and simtek its a totally different car.

Sound Andy, will do  .. Gimme a shout when the NCT is over

What are the differences between a V3/4 and V5/6 models?

What are the differences between V5 and V6 models?

Is a V-limited edition for V3/4 cars and WRC limited for V5/6 cars? Is there such a thing as a V5/6 V-limited as well as WRC limited?

robbie i know where there is an absolute mint 99 type r v limited, mint condition the last time i seen it,the car has been garaged for the last three years and id reckon no more than 1000 mls put on it in that time, also the car is completely standard i could find out more info for ya

What are the differences between a V3/4 and V5/6 models?.....the v3 is a different interior to the v4/v5/v6 also the gearing in the v3 is higher than the v4/v5/v6, the engine set up is different on the v3/4 than on the v5/6 but not better or worse

What are the differences between V5 and V6 models?...........very little different some small interior changes and the rear spoiler is different on the v6, the v6 also came with a chin spoiler on the v limited cars

Is a V-limited edition for V3/4 cars and WRC limited for V5/6 cars?.........no v limited on v3/4 cars only on v5/6. the wrc limited cars were only v6 i.e. limited no. made.

Is there such a thing as a V5/6 V-limited as well as WRC limited?........ there is a v5 v limited , none badged wrc as not numbered, they were only made to order from subaru(and thats the one i had robby) only the v6 numberd cars were badged as a wrc v limited car same as jamesae86 on here. these come with a blue dash numbered plate at gear stick, limited gear knob, blue limited seats, special wheels, front lip and roof vent

Cheers Johnny

Still a bit confused  .. There are V3/4 V-limited and they are numbered? But the V5 V-limited is not numbered?

I was looking at this car: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1853852 - V6 front and rear spoiler but V4 steering wheel and V4 or V5 seats? Says its number 266/1000 so would that then make it a V4 seeing as it is numbered?

Then i found this V5 V-limited but the only plaque says tuned by sti so this is a genuine V5 V-limited? http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1970865

WRC Limited are V6 only, sound

all jokes aside robbie if your set on a type r you should definetly go for one in wr or sonic blue with good wheels
(the only kind worth getting imo)you cant beat a blue type r looks wise compared to the rest....
if i ever ever got the urge to get an impreza thats what id go for  :subaru:

Cheers Johnny, I'll have a daily driver for during the week so want something as raw as possible for the weekend jaunts. I'm trying not to be too fussy about the colour and just try to find a clean, straight one. Blue or white would definitely be top of the list though  .. I found a black one for good money with only 110k on the clock but haven't heard back from the owner..

Trying to take in as much as possible right now and start making a list for house calls  .. I've promised the missus (and myself too) that i'd take my time and view as many as possible before making up my mind so thats what i'm going to do. I'm in no rush to buy so will wait until i think I've found something nice at the right price and then go from there

thats the job you cant beat the good ol daily driver motor,
its definetly worth taking your time and shopping around though :subaru:
is there much difference insurance wise compared to the b4?

Ssssshhhhhh... Not so loud :shhh: .. For the benefit of my missus, there is no difference  .. I plan on just swapping my insurance for the rest of this year and then moving to a trade policy when the renewal comes around. I don't think just swapping over for the few months will cost too much. The daily driver will be worth about twice what the type-r is so need both properly insured  .. I promised we'd sort out a good family car if i was going to get another subaru :wall: :icon_hang:

that first one robby is only a wrx, not an sti, i would need to see pics of the clocks and engine bay to say for sure and what version.

they made a v4 numbered wrx type r limited but that one has had a good few sti parts fitted, i wouldnt touch it!

second one is a geniune v5 v limited but has v6 front seats, he says in the add that it has a 22b rear which its not(its standard v5) and he says p1 front lip which its not( some after market one)

seems like a nice car but to expensive for that many miles 86m/138k and thats just an sti tuning badge on the dash

keep looking youll find a clean one soon with all the right bits.

it might be an idea to ask froggy to keep an eye out for one with a blown engine coming in

As above the first one is just a wrx and the second is nice but over priced. Out of the two I'd defo go look at the second one and see what you can do on the price. In this day and age you can always get a deal.

You should as already said be looking for one with a few mods you like as if you buy standard enough you may end up spending to mo0d yourself. My advice would be to buy as new as you can afford so version 6 aim for. There one in the forsale section a WRC special edition with an engine build which is always a good thing once it was done by a good builder.

Best of luck with the search and I'll keep my eyes open. :subaru:
