Gardai lifting cars

Am sure you guys heard about the "scam" where cars are imported I assume and false details given to get cheaper tax. You see them in adds on DD the whole time "1.6 on the tax book so cheaper tax"

Here's a link to the article, the guards could have a horn on them to do everything in the country after this craic..

Vrt is another scam . Illegal tax according to the Eu .

Doesn't make what these con men were at any more right or wrong though .

Don't think it's just garages Tommy, lads are doing it all over the country. As for tax and VRT don't get me started. But we as nice obedient citizens of this country just take it..

Surprising that its taken so long to be honest. I've been looking at E39 530D's and the amount the amount of them advertised with "cheap 2L tax" is crazy, especially when BMW never made an E39 2L diesel and even the petrol 520 is a 2.2.

Of course there'll be loads of lads getting cars taken from them because they know they've been conning the system but I bet you'll hear nothing of the garages that made plenty of money putting these changes through...

I agree that the cost of tax is crazy on certain cars but maybe if everyone was paying fairly, it wouldn't be as bad.

It's being going on for years,

It's only now they caught up

The hole system is corrupt

That's what makes the whole thing so fucking laughable. All pre 08 regs. The lad that can drop 60-70k on a new 530d can tax it for fu*k all. But the lad that's driving the yoke worth 6-7k is raped to the tune of 1800€ every year

That m3 they had on the new looked absolutely mint. Wonder when she's going for auction
[/quote]
As above scrawnban, could be some cheap cars for sale shortly

Are they taking the cars off the owners and not giving them back

So if he can't pay 1800 a year to tax it he has no business buying the bloody thing . I laugh at lads buying big jeeps and the likes complaining that it's a sow on juice and tax is 2 expensive . Get a grip buy a 2.0 instead of moaning .

I'll complain about the price of taxing my own yoke but purely as it's a weekend only car .If I were using it daily I'd have no issue taxing her for the year as I would be getting value for money .

Here here...well said

Think you missed both my points.

1. All pre 08, ie going on for years with no remarks passed

2. Cost to tax a pre 08 3l diesel BMW as against cost to tax a post 08 3l. Unfair system leads to this.

People still know the cost of the tax when they go and buy it though. As tom said, if they're not prepared to pay it, don't buy it. And then if nobody bought them, the government would be forced to do something rather than having so much potential money lying idle on driveways or being shipped abroad.

I don't agree with the whole thing about lads shouldn't buy them if they cant afford them... People are just not willing to pay it on principle.

The rate of tax is crazy, if someone wants and m3 they should be able to have one without being fuk'd up the arse on road tax, this country is built on the foundations of the ordinary person is ment to have nothing and be kept in there box...

im on kens boat here , price of tax is the big scam and espically when a major slice of the cake could be going to irish water , it s unbeliveable imo .

and the difference in tax price from a 1L micra to a 325 bmw is outrageous aswell . how can engine size be related to the amount of wear and tear on our roads ?

country is a joke in a thousand different ways , burn the government to the ground and all the shite that goes with it , and start afresh with parties being responsable for any fu*k ups they make .

9am rant over .
